A strong wind all day caused problems for many competitors. An original entry list of 15 was reduced to 10 before the start time as several competitors (wisely), decided not to risk their models in the difficult conditions.
The 3 Easy Gliders coped surprisingly well with the conditions, although Colin did have his elevator servo fail in flight. His model plunged rapidly to the ground, but bounced up again, virtually undamaged! There were a few occasions when pilots wisely powered up from difficult positions to save potential disasters even though this meant a zero score. I personally flew the first 2 rounds with my new 2m Sprite, but managed to do some damage on landing (fairly minor), which forced the use of my Swift for the last 3 rounds. (Not an ideal model for the conditions on the day!)
Chris Foss, flying his Super Starlight E came out on top once again and is now untouchable at the top of the Southern Open League.
Despite the weather and some rain during the day, everyone had a good time and an enjoyable day. Next comp for all is the Nationals on 29th August (2M) and 31st August (Open). Next Southern area comp in on 12th September.
