F3J Team Selection League
Bulletin No 3 - Mid term report

Well not quite half way with 3 of the 7 scheduled competitions completed and the two 'national' events of Interglide and the British Nationals still to come. The weather so far has not co-operated well but at least all the events have been flyable and the best of the British summer is still to come.

So far 37 pilots have competed in the league and the scores to date are available to view on the BARCS web site. In addition to the 3 UK events there are scores for some Eurotour events that UK pilots have attended so here is a reminder of how the final team selection scores will be calculated:

The points from the best 4 events will count towards the total subject to:
1. A score from one of the 'national' events of Radioglide, Interglide and the British Nationals must be included in the final total and
2. One of the scores from the remaining 4 UK day events can be substituted by a score from a Eurotour event.

So at the present time those pilots who have only competed in the UK have only 3 results in the table but those who have travelled abroad have 4 scores to include making the current table a little confusing! Never mind, the situation will become much clearer after Interglide when more pilots will have completed four events.

Interglide is less than 3 weeks away now and entries are going well with a strong overseas contingent. A list of pilots entered can be seen on the web site (www.interglide.co.uk) . There are still some of the 'normal' UK pilots who have not yet entered and they need to hurry up or they risk not being included in the matrix. Why is it that it is always the Brits who think that they can enter at the last minute? Don't worry about not being part of a team or not being able to hand tow because there are enough (comparatively!) fit and able bodied fellow competitors about to enable teams to be made up.

The entries for the Scottish event are currently very low and all those who intend to compete are reminded that, according to the league rules, entries have to be in to me by the Thursday before the event and later entries will only be accepted if there is space in the matrix and upon payment of a double entry fee.

Lastly the F3J World Championships take place at the beginning of August near Dole in the Jura region of France. Out team of Austin Guerrier, Colin Paddon and 'Fozzie' Devall will be representing the UK and taking on the best pilots in the world at an event where anything less than 9.55 and 95 is just not good enough! We wish them the best of luck hope to see one or more in the fly-off.

See you at Interglide

Peter Allen
