New Challenges for 2009 Leagues

BARCS Leagues in the future

Despite another competition season disrupted by the weather, the percentage of members participating in the various leagues seems to be holding at a good level. However the committee have been discussing ways to bring new challenges to the competition pilot and are introducing some changes for the 2009 season.

Open League

Notwithstanding the comment above, some of the regional leagues are less well subscribed than in the past. Whilst maintaining the current structure, we are going to put scores into a National League, so that competitors can measure their performance against the rest of the country. This may also be used to generate the Humbrol League Fly Off competitors at Radioglide.

All Rounder Trophy

Traditionally, to win this award members have had to make a claim, which sadly no one has done for some years. So we intend to present this for a combined league score over all disciplines. This should have the benefit of increasing the interest in some of the minority classes as well as encouraging participation in all.

Obviously the scheme needs to be weighted to give more points to participants in the

more popular leagues, so a ‘k’ factor will be applied to league scores as follows

Leagues with 1-5 participants         Multiple 1        example 400 points x 1        = 400

Leagues with 6-10 participants       Multiple 1.25  example 400 points x 1.25   = 500

Leagues with 11-20 participants     Multiple 1.5    example 400 points x 1.5     = 600

Leagues with 21-30 participants     Multiple 1.75  example 400 points x 1.75   = 700

Leagues with 31 plus participants   Multiple 2        example 400 points x 2        = 800

Additionally to encourage participation in more classes, 10 bonus points will be awarded for each additional league flown over the first, eg

1 League        0

2 Leagues      10

3 Leagues      20

4 Leagues      30

etc.

If necessary, we will review the scoring system for 2010.

Club League

Unfortunately only one club put in a score this year. This League has been in steady decline over the years and we feel it is time to abandon this in future.

Perfect Day Badge

The 3000/4000/5000 Badges have been awarded for many years and we still send out quite a few each season. But we noticed that there are a few very skilled pilots out there and felt they needed to have a special badge. So for a perfect score over all rounds and fly offs, the Perfect Day Badge has been introduced.  As currently these will be awarded from results received from the CD.

League Score Submission

Ninety percent of league scores are now submitted via email, which coupled with computer based scoring systems hopefully makes the CD’s life somewhat easier. However, can I take this opportunity to remind all competitors and particularly SLG flyers (where scores from Esoaring 200w/kg comps are eligible for BARCS League), it is up to you, the competitor to ensure the CD is aware you want your scores to count and you need to provide your BARCS number to ensure this happens.
