“What’s that?” I hear you cry!

It is the first r/c thermal soaring class to enjoy televised coverage with transmission all round the world, and the first competition to provide a knockout format

What do you need?

If you have BMFA / SAA insurance and a miniglider (HLG weighing less than 600g, wingspan no more than 1500mm, nose radius greater than 5mm), you can take part and you can have a chance of attending the prestigious World Air Games in Turin in 2009.

But I've never flown a hand-launch glider contest before?

Great! This event is about promoting the hobby! Just by taking part you are increasing the chances for UK competitors to be invited, so you will be given all the help and encouragement you can imagine!

I don't think my model is good enough!

There will be people flying all types of models, right from EPP 'Alula' type models up to the more typical DLG. You will get plenty of chance to fly and will see your skills improve throughut the day

The amount of points awarded to each pilot is dependant on the number of people who take part. The bigger the competition, the better chance we have of getting UK pilots invited. Even if you don't think you can compete for the top places, you will be helping those that do !

We are planning to run two contests on the same day. This gives you double the opportunity to score points and twice as much flying!

If you have a Discus Launch Glider, and either fancy a crack at the World Air Games in Turin in 2009 or just want to do your bit to help the UK effort, then get yourself along !

What are the rules?

The format is similar to the Football world cup.

• You fly a couple of rounds to decide your seeding
• You then fly one more round to qualify for the knockout
• If you get through to the knockout, then you just have to make sure you are not the first to land and you stay to the next round. Last man standing wins!
