It's great to be taking part in competitions again, and good to see such a friendly bunch still flying. Big thanks to Mike Proctor also with an ever accurate comment relating my launch heights to Boeing airliner designations... i.e. too high.

Northern F5J league 3. Report and scores from Mike Proctor. The day started with a breeze which rose fairly quickly to be mid teens mph with stronger gusts being common for most of the day. Morning conditions allowed models to get away from 20m but as so often happens a Retford, the wind increased during the day and then the lift was a largely unknown quantity but the lack of it made things interesting and launches increased to around 200m; more in some cases, followed by 3 - 4 minute flights, after a tour of the whole field, were not uncommon. Very rarely a real thermal would turn up, to make everybody go mad and attain great height but with much downwind travel return was not always easy, nor achieved, several land-outs were recorded. Most were close to the field but 1 was temporarily lost for an hour or so, sustaining little more than a muddy nose and a stripped servo gear. It was a welcome return to Alex Maxfield following a 25 year lay off and anyone who flew Barc's Open 30 years ago, would remember the Maxfield brothers who were part of the very strong Sheffield team. Following a chance encounter at Radioglide this year, we helped Alex source a Perfection and new radio gear and following some practice at Buckminster, Alex entered his first F5J comp yesterday and finish third.......now we are working on his brothers to return!
