Covid lockdown build ideas

Nick Clement

Recommended Posts

Due to another lockdown (draining) I have a bit of an urge to build something from a kit.....like a madslide, kulbutan, etc etc. Cant seem to find any kits at all, can anyone point me in the right direction for a kit? Not a very experienced builder so building from plans may be a little to much for me!!

Cheers 🙂

I'm not sure there was ever kit of the mad slide and I think the kulubutin was always artf.  Don't quote me on it though.

Actually not sure I can think of any traditional kits for that type of model off the top of my head.

There are a few slope kits around of different types though.

Thanks fellas I think you might be right on both parts I haven’t managed to find a kit of anything like this type except the EPP “le fish”  which doesn’t really appeal so I think a Bmfa ad might be in order.....

Going traditional - have a look at Stan Yeo's kits - balsa/ply building kits:

http://www.phoenixmp.com/acatalog/Gliders.html

There never was a kit for Madslide/Kulbutin etc - but if you dont mind building from a plan - heres the original Madslide article & plan:

http://jivaro-models.org/madslide/page_madslide.htm

The Quark is available as a short-kit:

And one that I noticed on Topmodel France (they are quite friendly & ship to UK)

https://www.topmodel.fr/en/product-detail-18881-beginacro-180m-laser-kit

and of course there's always the venerable Phase 6 - go for the Sport version, not the Pro - flies much better

Hope thats some food for thought. If you really want to go for the "Mad-Stab" thats needed for really crazy flip-loop aerobatics, thats a project in its own right.

Finally - it is a kit - just - buy an Ahi ! - kit build takes less than one hour - then theres hours of fun flying it. There are also online plans & downloadable printed parts files to build it with a Mad-stab

If I had time available - I think I would have a go at the Topmodel Begin'Acro - found a couple of videos - looks pretty well thought out & easy to build. Nice touches like 2-piece wings & removable tail.

I second that choice Phil.

And this one, nice kit, haven't built it yet! But I will.

Yesterday, I got a Flitetest Sea Duck in the post. It’s destined for aerotowing duty. Construction is like origami from waterproof foam board. Will keep me busy for a couple of weeks!

Want a challenge Nick, try this all wood, Laser short kit, the Svolazzo, designed by Stéphane Combet with MadStab and MadRudder, flips, true flat-spins. YouTube videos on construction too from Stéphane and Phillippe Jambon. Lots of resource if you get stuck:

A Svolazzo kit was delivered to me this afternoon! As you say, it looks like a challenge but a really exciting design 👍 A 4 servo wing + pitcheron! Apparently it will help me take my flying to level 7. It was this great video that inspired me... The second one shows better what it can do.

Hi Peter,

Im thinking of ordering This exciting design myself. Did you get the CD Design short kit, and if so, please tell me what is included, and what is the quality like?
Mike.
