What is on your to-buy or dream-to-buy sailplane list?

This is off thread because it has little to do with buying anything apart from wood and wire.

Since I was 10, I’ve wanted to fly a scale model of  the Breguet 901 which won the 1954 World Championships. I started to do some building a couple of weeks ago. It will be to a scale of 500/1732, which gives a finished wing span of 5m. The things that attracted me to this particular plane were the elegant shape of the fuselage, which is after one of the NACA airfoils and was the first to have the canopy fully integrated into the shape of the fus; and the prominent Fowler flap hinges on the wings. The plane is in the Le Bourget museum, which is where I took these photos. The building work I’ve started is aimed at getting the hinges more or less working right before embarking on the rest of the project.

Breguet 905 on ebay at mo, but it is a tiddler and v tail.

... and it is 4 too many! Only the 901 will do for me.

They made 50 905’s in 1958 and sold them all. They all had V-tails. The type was grounded the year after because the tail fell off one of them in flight. I’ve had enough of bits falling off my planes for one year.

  Hi Mark

I’m glad you like the project.  It was started as Zhou and I felt that there just wasn’t anything out there readily available that ticked the boxes that a  2.5m model can.  I always loved the Wiz Compact and you can’t help but admire the Needle 100!  The size of 2.5m I always think is a great one for high performance sports flying but the F3F record has been held a couple of times by models this size.

The name is pencilled in as the Falcon.

The wing root is 231mm (from memory) there should be a broad enough wing to have some big controls but a nice elliptical shape overall.  It has the same joiner as the Harrier- strength will not be an issue!  The servo access holes are wide enough to help you get in servo frames, based on the Kingmax servo frames from flight tech.

A nice sized tail and a fuselage similar to the Harrier, so there will be plenty of room and a ballast tube that will take 1.5kg.

The CAD work is done and the positives cut.  The working molds are being baked as we type (some pics on my willowracing blog).  I’m hoping to have a prototype to play with over Christmas and then it should be available in the new year.

Ian

The Dream is edging forward.  Don't think it will be here for Christmas now but the Falcon molds are getting more shiny by the day!605656334_tailmold.thumb.jpg.bc08fbe35d8ceedcfe263c13d563c4c6.jpg

Double wow Slopelope!

Both such beauties...That Ceflix JS3  is huge and so graceful in the air!

Is FES=Front Electric Sustainer? Electric engine of sorts that is used at nose end?

But is it a glider? - a jet? - a glider with a MJS Middle Jet Sustainer?

It’s noisy. It’s got a motor. Therefore, it’s not a glider - although it looks as if it might thermal.

The price of turbines seems to have fallen since I last looked (a long time ago). The airframe and the motor actually cost about £1600 - each.

Hi Andy_B

Thanks for this

I knew what an FES was/is, I just didn't know it wasn't a turbine - but thanks anyway:thumbsup:

Regards

Pete

BARCS1702

Pete you miss the point .......FES  is on the front   and is not a retractable motor of any sort turbine or otherwise
