Kent Interclub gliding competitions and Covid.

Recommended Posts

Kent Interclub was formed in the mid 1970s to bring together model clubs in Kent by running both league and cup competitions for pure and electric gliders.

Covid restrictions significantly disrupted our competition calendar last year, resulting in only a couple of small competitions being run later in the season.   To stage these events in a Covid-Safe way required an amount of preparation and changes to be made and proven during the event.

As a result of the work last year, the Kent Interclub is well prepared for the new season and we are confident about being able to run the contests in a safe way.  All we need is for the current pandemic to subside and restriction eased (and the great weather from last year)

Anyway, the reason for this post to share some of the Covid Safe work we have done.  At our recent KIC AGM (virtual) meeting, it was recognised that some of the key documents may be of use to the wider community, so therefore it was suggested to post this work on the BARCS website.

The attached document (running a Covid safe competition) gives a precis of the steps that we took when following the lead from the BMFA.  This is supported by the key documents, namely the Risk Assessment and the Model Flying event Covid Checklist.  I should point out that the Risk Assessment uses the previous BMFA template, the reason being simply to complement existing club document.  See BMFA for the current format.

I would stress that the attached documents were prepared for the Kent Clubs and may need tweaking as the regulations change, but we recognise that much of the content /approach may be common and have a wider use, so please feel free to adapt if you consider them to be of benefit. I can send documents in Word.doc if required.
