Joyce Foot

Had the sad news today that Joyce Foot, had passed away. Probably not that well known by the newer members , Jim her husband was a BARCS member for some years, until he passed away in 2000. They used to run the Easter Egg, series of glider competitions, at the Chemsford Club site, that were run on the Easter Monday, as a club member who was a clergyman could not fly on the Sunday. Joyce will always be remembered by us older flyers, as she used to build all Jims models for him. A very rare woman in the hobby. RIP

One thing I never knew about Jim Foot, till I attended his funeral, was that he was in the Fleet Air Arm, and flew on the Arctic Convoys. Brave man, although you would never have known it.

Sad news.
A lovely and unique character.
Always happy and laughing, even when r/c gliders landed on her while she was scoring one of her comps (with a calculator, pen and paper in those days). She turned up wearing a German WW2 helmet the next time we attended one of her comps.

Reunited with Jim now.
RIP.

Found a happy reminder of Joyce and Jim today.

Happy days when electric launched gliders were new and viewed by some as a black art.

Even then I was always second or third,  I wish I could get that high a finishing place now😃
