MikeE Posted August 23, 2021 Share Posted August 23, 2021 Very enjoyable 3 days spent down in sunny Wiltshire. Nice walk on Saturday in the mist laden forest around Alfred's Tower, very atmospheric and beautiful. Nice fly Friday afternoon, and a couple of fun nights out with friends. Then to cap it off a sunny day with the wind blowing in the right direction. Occasionally frustrating conditions but occasionally not. Ten rounds in a day made up for the cancelled Saturday. Well done to all the whitesheet lads, both in the organising the food and their flying, even Tony got a trophy . We all know the day was very variable, and that 10 rounds can help to smooth this out, but there is also another level of luck that is needed. Its all about the timing. That slot luck alluded me on Sunday, don't get me wrong here, I was and are happy to have had a nice day on the hill and was happy with my flying on the day so I have no complaints. The results sheet though does highlight that its not just how well you fly, or how good your air is but also when you hit that good slot. I had 3 second places during the day, two of them being bettered by Mike Shellim who was not putting a foot wrong in a few nice patches of air. Looking at the average scores for a second place; The other seven second spots average was 958 points, my three second places averaged at 856. A very significant loss. Mikes score of course hit everyone in those rounds, and was made all the more poignant by him being last man. 804, points - Bashed by Shellim 908 points BruceH 858 points - Bashed again by Shellim. rc-soar Posted August 25, 2021 Share Posted August 25, 2021 Big thanks to Graeme, Mike B and all, for a fun day of relaxed competition. Okay so the conditions weren't the most consistent, but it was a great opportunity to try different turn styles and experiment with ballast, in order to deal with the slightly crossed wind. And we managed to complete 10 rounds in bright sunshine, fueled by Mike's excellent nourishment!! Bearing the availability of free test kits, IMO it would be useful to have a protocol in place for multiple-day competitions, as we often socialise indoors in the evenings. From the comp CD perspective I have checked what we need to do. The guidance at www.gov.uk/coronavirus is fairly straightforward. Only those who have symptoms are recommended to get a test and isolate. Doing anything further is down to personal choice.
