That would be nice. I seem to recall taking several layers of clothes and then having a short hail storm at Twywell last year!

So it looks as though, although the rain has mainly disappeared, the predicted wind speed is not going to be conducive to a successful competition.

The decision has therefore been made to cancel tomorrow's event.

I hope to see as many of you as possible at Buckminster for 7/8th April.

Out of interest, what is the approx cut off windspeed where a F3K comp would be cancelled?

From the FAI Sporting code ( https://www.fai.org/sites/default/files/sc4_vol_f3_soaring_23.pdf )

"5.7.5. Weather conditions / Interruptions

The maximum wind speed for F3K contests is eight (8) m/sec. The start of the contest must be delayed or the contest has to be interrupted by the contest director if the wind speed exceeds eight (8) m/sec measured three (3) times for at least twenty (20) sec in a time interval of five (5) minutes at two (2) metres above the ground at the start and landing field. In the case of rain, the contest director can interrupt the contest. When the rain stops, the contest starts again with the group that was flying, which receives a re-flight."

8m/s is just under 18mph. With the forecast showing 20mph gusting 30-40mph it was an easy decision.

On Ivinghoe Beacon, the strongest we had was 18m/s. Admittedly that's in the compression zone, but the braying laughter from the other pilots when I said I was meant to be at a DLG competition...

I've often wondered what treasure lies at the end of a rainbow?  If it's the contents of Mike's pants, then I'm not so sure I want to find it. 😉
