Hi Jon

do you have any information on the proposed format/rule changes?  It would be good to be able to read them through in excited anticipation.

Ian

I have not received any proposals from GBSRA members for  any rule changes.

The only proposed change relates to a request from the BMFA for the rules to specifically include a female category within the Team Selection process. This is in anticipation of changes to the FAI rules. I will present the changes on Thursday. All BMFA Silent Flight rules administered by the SFTC will be subject to his change.

Do you know if the BMFA have taken legal advice on this? Equality legislation in this area is a bit of a minefield.

Seems a little odd to me to have a female category.

I'm sure gender would not prove either an advantage or disadvantage when the activity is mostly standing still and twiddling sticks.

If it's just for inclusion then we could have a class for anyone that's not a bloke over 50.

I think the idea is to encourage people who aren’t grizzled males to participate. I’m pretty sure that the last French attempt at organising the World Championships offered two sets of prizes: one for each gender, so it’s something that has already arrived.

At the last F3F World Championships there was actually a female category (although just 1 entry).

There might not be any gender based advantages and disadvantages flying F3F/B/J (it's all in the thumbs...) but there is a difference in F3K.

Might be fairer to have a class for anyone under 5' 6"

Should cover youth, females and JP.

Might give the rest of us a chance. 🤔

National teams can be up to 4 or 5 flyers, the top three count for the team score.

This 'team composition' rule is in the FAI/CIAM general rules for 2023 see below  It was certainly applied at the Free Flight Champs last August.  The one Female in the USA F1B team of four, beat one of the three men and therefore formed part of the USA F1B team of three that took the Silver Team medals.

The full rule is in the picture.  It's an FAI rule and the BMFA team selection rules are just to pick a team to comply with it.  We had a female on our F1A team in France this year.

I am going to propose that Scotland has a league event again next year. Since the minimum number was lowered last year, I'm confident we can make it happen.

As far as I'm aware, that doesn't need to be proposed in advance?

Sorry to have missed the AGM folks. My bad - for some reason, my Google calendar failed to send the set emails/notification reminders. Hopefully it'll be third time lucky next year.

Well most of us, maybe, lol 😉
