Airjet / Carrera Sagitta - super rare !

Picked up this one yesterday - from an ebay auction sale lot - with a car load of other stuff - picked up from Totnes - from the original owner who bought it in the late 1980s. All in excellent condition - just missing the original instructions.

Now what are the chances of an unbuilt, boxed, original Sagiita turning up for sale in Devon? - got to be approaching zero - but here it is !

I've got the later Simprop Sagitta Project 2 - nice, but this one is the real, original Sagitta. It will get built with a 4x servo wing for CROW flaps & camber change - aileron servo cut-outs are already there, would have been for the original bellcranks.

(and if you want to know what else I got - all retro stuff - follow the ebay item link below - let me know if theres anything there you might be interested in)

Nice Phil

i did see this on EBay and thought nice collection, didn’t bid as I have a Sagitta in flyable condition and a new in a box unbuilt one as well

great planes

i would be interested in the aggressor if you fell the need to part with it, another good retro glider. I’m currently using when the conditions are right a SAS Apache, I refurbished this last year and have had a few good outings over the winter

see you soon

Must get my Apache finished - must be 25 years since I started it!

I started a Cliff Charlesworth Lo100 in 1990. It’s first in the queue to be painted when my new paint shop is commissioned. All I need is a male-to-male union for the air hose.

Perhaps we should have a new thread: “Long term builds”

John, I have a Charlesworth Lo100, a lovely little thing.

Great on the slope and really aerobatic if you couple the flaps with the ailerons and elevator (snap flap).  But then you have to uncouple them for flat field aero towing - as it gets very squirrelly when being towed up.  You'll also end up back on the ground very quickly as doing aero's is irresistible!

Male to male union arrived just a couple of minutes ago, so I’m hoping to get to the painting very soon. It’s only the final colour coats that need doing. I’m planning to base it on the wingless full size machine they’ve got at Lasham, so I’ll have to decide what the wings might have looked like. The fus and elevator are yellow and blue - just like the Ukrainian flag.

John, can you let me know how much yours weighs?

How soon do you want that weight John?  Might take me a week or two as I have to move a pile of stuff and clamber around on my knees in the loft to get to it.  BUT flat out finishing scale indoor nats models ready for next weekend atm.  Mike Evans has one too as we have flown them together up the Mynd and his may be easier to get at and weigh for you.  And he is retired, Mike????

I’ll get in touch with Mike. I only wanted to know because I like to know what to expect at the maiden. There’s not a lot I can do to make it lighter at this stage!

I don’t know if Mike is retired now. He hasn’t been well recently.

Male to male union has now been achieved in the beach hut!

Mike is retired and recovered from his heart op, I've been flying with him at the Wolves club indoor meetings over the winter.  Oh and don't even attempt to fly the Lo100 in anything less than 10mph on the slope!

Wow, what a find! It's incredible to stumble upon such a rare gem like the Airjet/Carrera Sagitta, especially in such pristine condition. Building it with those modifications sounds like a fantastic project. Enjoy the journey!

I have one I got off the BMFA web site many moons ago, still gets regular use and is quite aerobatic (not the 3D style)

Good Idea to remove the rear canopy latch to prevent the canopy cracking when the fuselage flexes during landings.

I use Spoilerons for the Approach which work well, no need for flaps. (keep it as it was intended)

I had decided to recover  when I bought it but several years on its still on the todo list

Good to see it flies well inverted - here's  the right way up

Mine is still in its box - under my desk - maybe a winter build

the fuselage is made of a plastic called Feran.... like washing up bowl plastic, quite flexible , its really hard to get anything to glue to it.

the kit has a lot of hard plastic parts and screws 🫣

I use a simple free photo viewer / editor called "Irfanview" - have done for over 20 years - rotate, save, done! Always works - even photoshop sometimes gets it wrong

(download from irfanview.com)
