Richard Newsham Posted July 8 Posted July 8 (edited) This competition has been cancelled for both days, Saturday 20th July and Sunday 21st July. The next contest in the 2024 FxRES National League will be two separate one-day events at the BMFA National Centre at Buckminster over the weekend Saturday 20th July 2024 and Sunday 21th July 2024. I, Richard Newsham, will be CD on the day. The contest is open to anyone with a model meeting the BMFA FxRES rules (links below). If you've not flown FxRES before, you will be very welcome as an entrant, a spectator or a helper. Scores will be entered in the 2024 FxRES National League but entry is not a commitment to the league. Please reply to this thread if you would be interested in entering on the assumption the weather will be good. Please (1,) state which class or classes you would fly and (2,) the date(s) you will fly on the weekend. Actual entry will be on the day but this will give a guide to the level of interest. Please follow this post for updates as the event approaches. I will make a go/no-go call on the weather on Thursday 18th July around 6pm. If you have a question, please ask! Details below. Date: Saturday 20th July 2024 and Sunday 21st July 2024 Location: BMFA Buckminister, Sewstern, GRANTHAM, NG33 5RW Format of the day: 08:00 Site open 10:45 Pilots briefing 11:00 to 15:00 Competition working time 15:00 Fly offs followed by prize ceremony Entry fee: £15 (£10 site fee plus £5 to the prize fund for each class entered - Buckminster season-ticket holders do not pay the site fee). The CD will distribute score cards in exchange for entry fees. FxRES is a competition class for 2m-span thermal soaring models constructed mainly from wood. Contests are a variant of the provisional FAI classes F3L (bungee launch) and F5L (electric launch) to a simplified and relaxed format. Bungee and electric launch gliders compete side by side but with separate score sheets. A competitor can fly F3L or F5L or both at FxRES contests. The full FxRES rules in the 2024 BMFA Silent Flight Rule Book (links below). The contest comprises a four-hour working time during which competitors fly up to ten timed flights. The best six count for the league and the winners on the day will be decided by additional fly-offs. F5L height limiters must be set to 100m/30seconds. F3L bungees will be provided. Please read the BMFA Buckminster Site Flying Rules BMFA membership is mandatory for entry. BMFA General Competition Rules say "All models ... must be clearly marked with the owner’s BMFA Membership number on the upper surface of the wing in letters at least 19mm high." Handwritten is fine - a felt-tipped pen will be available on the day. This is particularly important when flying or being photographed at Buckminster. 2024 BMFA Silent Flight Rules discussion with links to the BMFA and FAI rule books. There are some informative posts on the "F3-RES and F5-RES - UK" Facebook group regarding where to find information. Posts 14th Feb 2024, 1st March 2024 and 17th March 2024. Pete in Northiam Posted July 8 Posted July 8 Count me in please. F3L both days. Accommodation booked fingers crossed on weather Thanks -- Pete 1
Bob Goodenough Posted July 8 Posted July 8 I’m interested in flying on both days and, probably, both F3 and F5 - one on each day. 1
Pete in Northiam Posted July 9 Posted July 9 On a point of clarification, don't the FAI F5L rules say limiters at 90m? I don't have them to hand and CD's privilege, of course... (Not even my discipline ... yet!)

This is different to FxRES rules that states 100m. Richard
John Minchell Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Pete, its not a FAI F3L or F5L competition, its a challenge competition using the BMFA rules. Richard, I hope to be there for both days, but it will be a last minute decision the day before. Got a few personal challenges atm. John M 2

Thanks, John, hope you're well. Yeah this was my screw-up: a penalty of old school calendars and a transcription error on classes at events! Hence the dumb question! Juggling more things than brain cells sometimes...
CTR Posted July 12 Posted July 12 Hope to be there, and that the weather plays ball! (F5) Presumably camping is as per normal on site. Do we pay separately direct to the BMFA? Neil P 1
andyharrold Posted July 12 Posted July 12 Apologies but I have decorating commitments which I cannot get out of! 1

I will be ringing BMFA Buckminster on Friday to book my Friday and Saturday nights camping. I don't believe there is another way to do it. The office has been closed when I have been at Buckminster so paying on the day has never been an option. For RadioGlide you could book camping along with booking your competition entry on the BARCS website but it's not like that for this FxRES event. Regards, Richard.

Regards, Richard I have rung Manny. Camping is as per normal. See photo for fees. Payment for camping can be made via telephoning the BMFA (Leicester or National Centre), posting your camping fee in the red post box on site or handing your fee to me. Listed in order of preference . Just to add a request here, Manny has said to remind people of the closed gate policy at the entrance to the site. Regards, Richard.
Bob Goodenough Posted July 16 Posted July 16 Bother! I shan't be able to make this weekend after all! Gout, sciatica and a close contact with someone who has tested positive with Covid will keep me confined for a few days. Only been able to make one competition so far this year. I'm feeling my age and feeling pretty depressed. 1

cirrusRC Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Eyes + balance issues. No fun flying or driving at the moment. I won't be attending. Hope all goes well. 1 1
Richard Newsham Posted July 17 Author Posted July 17 Met Office, BBC Weather and XCWeather are all showing signs of calling the comp on. That will be confirmed tomorrow (Thursday) around 6pm. I have 3 people including myself and 1 more if work permits, telling me they are taking part. The competition is roll up on the day. I am going to be there come what may. For a comp to be valid the class must start with a minimum of 2 people. Anybody else thinking of taking part? Regards, Richard. 1
Alex Maxfield Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Have a great event guys. I have a clash with an F5J event unfortunately. 1
Richard Newsham Posted July 18 Author Posted July 18 I am calling the competition on for Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 21st. We might have to dodge a shower but I hope nothing more than that. I will be at Buckminster on Friday evening sometime if you would like to say hello. (orange Vango Force 10 tent) 1
Richard Newsham Posted July 18 Author Posted July 18 The number of people that have said they are taking part has reduced by one. I have said this event is turn up on the day but it is now leaving me in a bit of a predicament. I am down to 2 confirmed (Neil and myself) with 1 maybe. As it stands this is not really a competition for two separate classes. For anyone that has seen this thread/post and plans to just turn up I would really like to know if you are coming by 12 o'clock Friday 19th July. If I don't see anymore confirmed places by 12 o'clock Friday 19th July, I may have to cancel the competition. @CTR Niel, given the fact that it may just be you and me with the possibility of John Minchell, (I am happy to swap from F3L to F5L) are you still happy to take part if no more people sign up by dinner time on Friday. Regards, Richard.
