Hi Allan,

I think I have some brass ballast from Baudis that might fit. If it’s the same as for the Jedi lift. I’ll check and let you know.

Not to worry Mike

Once I have the dimensions I'll buy some brass and cut it up

And yes I believe it's the same as the Jedi

I’ve got this note on my ipad which you may or may not be able to decipher, and which may or may not be accurate. Best of luck:

Pitbull ballast

Wing area 54.9dm2

Max weight 54.9 x 75 = 4.117kg

                                                                2 tungsten.          4.                   6

Airframe                      = 2.360kg

Fuselage ballast          = 0.262kg

Wing ballast                = 0.528kg.           604.8.                  681.6        748.4

                                       _______

                                    = 3.150 kg.          3.227.                 3.304.        3.381

Tungsten density. 19.3 g/cm3

Brass density.       8.4 g/cm3

Tungsten ballast would weigh 1.825kg. Total 4.185kg.

Actual weight: 2.163kg

Slugs are 14x83 (6) and 16x50 (7)

Weighing    41.2      and  17.37 brass

                  220.0    and  114.0g tungsten

Sent to M Drewet, 1/3/15

Tailplane area (calculated same way as the wing) is about 7.14dm squared. Assuming the angle between the tailplane halves is 110degrees, its projected area is therefore about 7.14xcos(35 degrees)=5.85 dm squared.

Total area (FAI rules) is thus 54.7 (wing) + 0.8 (fuselage) + 5.85 (tailplane)

=61.35.

Total permissible weight is then 4.6kg or thereabouts. Since the wing and tailplane areas are slight underestimates, the weight estimate is a bit low as well.

My note says the fus ballast is 16x50. This isn’t right. It’s 16x10x50. 7 slugs.  At least the piece I measured this morning is. I seem to remember that early Pitbulls had slightly differently sized slugs. It would be easy test by cutting a piece of balsa to size and trying it.….and, just to be complete, where I say the wing ballast is 14x83, I mean 14 square.
