This year 2024 has probably been the worst for competitions being cancelled due to the weather .

The competitions run by Alex Maxfield  in the Northern area  tend to be provisionally booked as Saturday/Sunday

For our Competitions at Tonbridge we would need to get permission from the Farmer  but I think they would be understanding.

Wether there needs to be a rule change within Barcs / Bmfa. I seek guidance from commitee/SFTC

But what I,m really interested in is YOU the potential competitor  ,please put your thoughts forward in this thread .

Evening Graham

The option of both days, would work for me, and I will propose this option for the KIC comps I am involved with.

I am available to participate on Saturday for the Towner if run on the 5,10 ,24

Yeah I'm happy to do that. It's nice to get more flying in, even if it means unpredictable travel and days.

Saturday/ Sunday is good for me. I am in favour.

I think that the Northern group have had more days than the Midlands, Southern and Eastern groups combined in 2024, so it obviously has it's advantages.

Definitely in favour.

Not only that, but could two day events not have options of; Friday / Saturday, and Sunday /Monday.

Just trying to get as much flying in as possible.

To facilitate planning, I think it would be a good idea if one of the days was designated a prime day, so if both look good, we know which one it will be.

I cnnot see anything in the rules to object to this. The only 'must do' to comply with BMFA rules is that the event must be added to the BMFA competition calender at minimum 4 weeks notice prior to the event. And it must be advertised that the actual competition day will be confirmed at a last minute, subject to weather etc.

If the venue can allow the option then it must be a good way to go.

I can fly on either day

Problem I see with the BMFA 4 week rule ,

makes it impossible to re run a competition in a shorter period  .I.e less than 4 weeks between cancellation and rerun .

Definitely in favour.

Just look at weather at Upton this weekend, Saturday would definitely have been an option!

In favour, but can appreciate it might not work for those with young families and commitments.

OK with me, Graham, but might not be to everyone's taste.

I am good with the "options" approach. Seems we've lost comps this year because Sunday was bad where we've watched a good Saturday pass by.

I think the weather we have experienced over the past few years is likely to continue in a similar vane going forward. I think anything that gives us a better chance of not having to cancel competitions has to be a good thing. It's worked for the guys in the North so why not give it a try here in the south.

A way around this could be to add wording on to the BMFA competition entry.

Something like:  If event cancelled, it will be re cheduled on............ or ............ See  BARCS forum for all information.

Or just plan comps with each having a planned reserve date.

Why not get rid on the BMFA 4 week rule? I guess its only there to make admin easier.

There’s also the element of making it a fair competition.
It allows anyone who may be competing for a league position adequate notice to make arrangements to attend.

What would be better is to ensure that all Comp directors get together and choose dates so that we don’t have comps on the same day/ weekend. So whoever gets their dates in first the other comp directors ensure they don’t use the same date for their comps. There are far to many clashes of dates each year.

Jfreeman  as a cd in the southern area I have asked numerous times for cd ,s  to consider avoiding date clashes

particularly one area ?

PaulR For the last few years there has been a full Calender of F5J events listed on the Barcs forum

published early in the year normally around April  ,

Which should give adequate planning for most competitors.

The 4 week rule desperately needs reviewing  ,who for example actually bothers to download the Bmfa news  where the competition dates ,according to the rule should be published.

With the f3f winter leagues, where four regions are competing for dates, we simply try to stick with each region always aiming for the same week in the month.

Ie, first / second/ third, Saturday,/Sunday in the month.
