Purbeck ASW27 Electric Conversion

I've got an opportunity to purchase a Purbeck Models ASW27 which apparently is in very good condition. It's fitted out with tow release and retractable wheel. I don't really do a lot of slope flying these days so was wondering how easy it would be to convert to electric to get me to good thermalling altitude from my club flying field. Ideally it would take off from the ground using its undercarriage wheel and not rely on hand launching.

Any advice on a motor/propeller/cell count setup would be much appreciated.

If your going flat field, I would consider removing the retractable wheel, keep it light as possible, and hand launch.

I had a few, the lightest one was considerably better on scratchy days.

I fitted a retract in one and felt it lost much more than it gained.

Yes, I'd be flying flat field with it I reckon. I was hoping that a central wheel would raise the fuselage off the ground enough to allow take offs. 4m is quite a size for hand launches, especially when you don't have complete faith in those who may be assisting!

I had one for many years but I only slope soared with it - lovely glider.

You stand pretty much no chance of getting enough clearance with the standard retractable undercarriage so like Mike I'd remove it to save weight.

How about a simple dolly for take off and then belly land - super safe!

Yes, that's definitely an option.
