EdgeTx radio.yml file, go straight to USBmode on plugging in

My 'Wanted - dead Boxer' post in the for sale/wanted section might disappear at some point. I'll post this here as well in case it helps someone in the future.

There always another way - for some things anyway.

I took a look at the radio.yml file on the Boxer's SD card - relevant sections in images below - I changed the USBmode option and now can use Companion to change models and model settings despite the roller on the radio not functioning any more.

I can't change the date or time but so what, doesn't stop the radio from working. I very much doubt I can bind any new Rxs either.

Britpop was model number 21 - I used Companion to have a tidy up of models and shuffled them around in the menu.

Wow Tony, that looks like computing, not aeromodelling. You must be a genius.

Hi Simon @Mr_SMO

Nah, I'm definitely not a genius! Everything these days is a computer, especially if it has a screen of some kind. Fortunately some of the configuration files that make stuff work are plain text. I took the SD card out of the Boxer and read the files on my PC. Then when viewing the files I read 'between the lines' and guessed at some things, the bit about changing the manuallyEdited to 1 I got off a website as I was spinning around looking for any info about the structure of the .yml file.

I'm not out of the woods yet in getting the crippled Boxer to function. When I tried it the other day I got no servo motion. Going to restore the settings before I had the tidy up to see if I get servo movement back. If not then I reckon this Boxer is junk.

I’m not a Boxer user but do use a Radiomaster ‘16 and had weird things happening with models, selecting and other issues. Replacing the SD card solved all the oddities and been working fine since. Just a thought.

It's a good thought Neil @CTR I tried another card before I took the radio apart and gave the roller component a spray with contact cleaner. Unfortunately it wasn't the card.*

I restored the Boxer from copies I'd made before tidying and shuffling the models around in the menu, the Boxer works again so I'll leave it untidy and use it as it is.

* I've been having fun getting an animatronic singing reindeer back working at my local garden centre. His micro SD card had 'worn out' and he was not performing correctly. Now he can imitate Bing Crosby, Bing and Bowie duetting, Elvis, and Slade! Before he only sang a like barbershop quartet 🙂 He still does some songs like that but I learnt how to create suitable mp3s and give him some variety - much to the staff's relief! It wasn't long before you'd had enough of his previous repertoire when having a coffee in the cafe.
