Hi Alex. I will confirm nearer the time. I have a few FxRES comps going on this year so will have to manage my weekends at home.

We kicked off the 2025 competition season at Sandhays at the weekend. 8 competitors flew in a 2 groups per round event, over 7 rounds.

The weather was sunny but with a chill in the wind from the East. Wind speeds were pretty much on forecast at around 14mph with occasional gusts, luckily Sandhays is a great site and the airflow is quite smooth.

The lift was varied, but present in nearly all groups, most flying out. The lift moved quickly and quite often was only picked up downwind of the flying site meaning a lot of models were downwind a long way. The lift frequently evaporated or fragmented creating quite a bit of concern for those who needed good air to get back to the flying site. Many models were ballasted up close to 2kg to help with this challenge. There were also quite a few restarts for those pilot who struggled to get back.

The scores reflect the conditions with bad scores and zeroes scatted amongst us all, there were also some great pieces of flying on display from those who picked up their own piece of lift and out flew the rest. @Bob Dickenson and @Richard Newsham were two such pilots.

The scores were quite even at the end of seven rounds, and I was happy, if a bit surprised, to have taken top slot. I was flying my new Morpheus for most of the event - ballasted to just under 2kg. I have a bit more trimming left to do, notably the flap/elevator compensation under braking which lead to some entertaining landings much to the amusement of the other pilots. My last flight was very satisfying, picking out a lone buzzard circling at the edge of vision up wind, I launched to 80m and flew the slot out for a 1000 points.

Congratulations to @Mark devall and Alex Jeffery for 2nd and 3rd and @Cengiz for a solid performance with the most 1000s for the day.
