South West Slopers

Recommended Posts

Hi Rodders,

It might be worth a punt anyway, later in the day. The forecast shows it is heading around westward from South, so the main bowl might still work pretty well after lunch, perhaps a little to the right of the hump. I may well pop down myself and see if it looks any good - there will certainly be enough wind it seems!

cheers,

Chris

Thanks Chris,

If it swings to SW I'll consider going, but having read the other thread get the impression there is a South slope but it's not open to RC use.

As it is, South is a no go.

cheers

Stonking conditions at Whitesheet today for a maiden. Schwing is ballistic!

Slightly misjudged landing however - never thought I'd be grateful of the big  - huge - puddles on the track...

Now, about that tail servo...

Are we saying that it's doable in a westerly?

I'd discounted White Sheet in a westerly.

Certainly is Rodders whitesheet works from East south east on the razor right around to north northwest there is also a North Ridge but I'm not sure if we're still allowed to use it. There are however better hills like Westbury that give better lift in westerlies around to north north easterlies

Hello all

Just wondering what slopes are around the Dorset coast ( from Bridport as far across as Bournemouth).

Just looking to see what's available as soon as the wind picks up, as its sure to do soon.

i normally fly from White Sheet but would consider trying somewhere else.

Ive got a Valenta L213 that needs a good blow to get it moving.

I thought there were some slopes near Bournemouth.

Rodders.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't find it overly useful for my location.

The hyperlinks to the maps don't work for me. Although I'm sure there are slopes near Bournemouth there is no mention of them.

go to the "more slopes" page - then click on the sites map link - takes you to a google map with pins marking the slopes - click on the pins for info!

Plenty of Dorset slopes there

Phil.

all you do is click on the map on the home page :frantics:, it takes you to google maps,

unless your looking on your phone in which case I cant help ,

It lists most of the slopes in the area ,but not all ,

Then again permission is needed for other sites .

A friend and I have written : www.dorsetslopesoarers.wibley.com which will help.  There are about six clubs around here with mostly power flyers, very few glider guiders.  I live in Weymouth but belong to Wessex Soaring Association for some company, I use all the local slopes and fly with the club on our own slopes near Shaftsbury, please contact us and fly with us on first weekend in the month for our club fly-in.

Looking at Saturday to test fly a 4m Topmodel Fox. Looking like a SE wind - any suggestions on a suitable location?
