Got mine yesterday and got a bit carried away building into the night. Thank god nothing serious happened while I did it, I tend to be even more sloppy when I build when tired. :)

But one tip perhaps. The carbon spars have different length, one is longer for the side opposite to the throw hook. Attentive builders obviously notice that.

But damn that thing is small and light. Crazy.

Spent an hour gluing some bits...

This model is best thought of as a UMX DLG!

Mad. It is so small.

Just have to cover mine now - will do that maybe tomorrow/tonight.

Ok.  spent another hour out on the local "hill"  -> more like a sloping field!

The Opteryx is a superb little pocket soarer.

It can DLG quite happily, however dont expect flight of more than 20 seconds off a flat launch.

I have found the model rather tricky to trim well for both launch and flight.   When you get the flight right - the launches have to be handled carefully to prevent a loop!   I did try flight modes - but this made it worse!   You get all of 2 seconds to get your hand to the switch!  Not nearly enough time to make the launch smooth!

But... ignoring that.  It flies very well.

What not to expect.  This model can loop - JUST!   A roll?  Maybe if some speed is achieved on the slope.

What it does do is to float about on the slightest up draft.  The end of my local field has a small 'hillock'  This was just about generating some lift; and the glider was just about going up!

I think that where it will excel is flying off unusual sites.   A sea wall?   A sand dune?  Any low lying lift inducing hump!

I am very happy with the model.  It is cheap enough, small enough and flies well enough to ensure I have no excuse for not taking a model on holiday.
