simon_t
Just in case anyone is unsure gyros are banned in the midland winter league ...so we all know in advance Andy, Whilst I am anti gyros, and don't plan to start using them, at the moment CIAM/FAI have stated that they are legal. What is your basis for banning gyro equipped models? Given the FAI statement, it is similar to stating 'no models more than 2M span' or 'only rudder/elevator models are allowed'. Local rules should only relate to safety aspects, and limited evidence would suggest gyros probably help safety. Simon
Andy_B
as i read it simon a local rule is a local rule FAI or not ..........its our hill and our comp ....we make the rules ...if we choose to follow FAI or BMFA rules then that is our prerogative . And we are more interested in a level playing field and an introduction to competition which is what the initial idea of the winter leagues were as I understood. isoaritfirst
We just want a nice fair fight.so gyros are banned, but if anyone wants to cheat then I guess we can't stop them. But they may not be made welcome by those that agree to play by 'my'rules
Martin_N
I would be quite happy to fly against someone with a gyro fitted especially if they were using it on an edge.
simon_t
I understand, but it could also be seen as distorting the league in favour of what you fly, rather than what is (currently) legal to fly in F3F. I don't think I have ever seen that precedent set in around 30 years of flying F3F. It might be interesting to see if any folks do adopt gyros, and if it improves their performance. It might ultimately not be good for 'F3F UK' if we arbitrarily ban gyros. And don't believe everything you read on RC Groups about the impact of current technology... isoaritfirst
Currently the majority don't have or understand gyros. So our current view is to stay with the majority and give them the best day out that we can. Situation may change in the future, but I can see no alternative that is better at the moment. Andy_B
Cant we just leave it as dont come to a midland league event with a gyro and expect to score points if you use one . Please feel free to use the BMFA league to experiment

The alternative is do nothing. Status quo. And see if anybody bothers using gyros. If they start to dominate, then maybe consider action, but why not see? Martin_N
Personally I think they should be banned, but until its official I can't see how it is reasonable to do so. Does it mean we should limit what servos we use ie if you have better spec servos, transmitter etc than another pilot you cant fly because its unfair? Rumbey
Excuse my ignorance but I am only familar with gyros in Multicopters to keep things stable. How will this help fly faster in F3F? Will it slow the models response in order to fly smoothly?

satinet
I don't believe gyros are legal if you read the rules. The fact that the german proposal to ban them failed doesn't mean the existing rules don't apply. A good cd shoukd enforce the rules properly.
