After this current storm has passed ( 70mph recorded at Fylingdales ), Saturday looks positively quiet with only 28mph gusts.

Looks like Levisham at the moment. But as usual we will make the final call on Friday evening

Where has all that wind gone?

Forecast is now for light winds, but still on Levisham.

So we are ON for tomorrow. Meet at Levisham 9 - 9:30

Have a good day - Richard is in charge!!

Today's Northern Winter league showed Levisham at its best - times ranged from 40s to 93s, with wind speeds of borderline around 3m/s to 8m/s, and the occasional thermal coming through as well. Very challenging flying, but we got 10 rounds in so that helped to even things a little. Some good flying from everyone, with Paul G putting in some cracking runs - the Crossfire 2 looked the business today (as it has done in practice....). Mr Wright made his annual outing today too!

I've churned the results manually (we had some equipment issues), but subject to an independent check it looks like the scores are as follows:

Mark Redsell    (Freestyler 4.3)  8367.7

Paul Garnett    (Crossfire 2)   8256.96

Richard Bago   (Freestyler 3)  7990.42

Peter Gunning  (Freestyler 4.3)  7971.22

Mark Treble    (Toxic)  7756.62

Ronny Lampe  (Needle 124)  7555.74

Paul Middleton    (Vikos, Skorpion)  7523.33

Keith Wood     (Needle 124) 7475.75

Frank Hulton    (New Sting)  7119.12

Gonzalo Garcia-Atance    (Tracer, Skorpion) 7087.84

John Tideswell   (Freestyler 3) 6718.04

Dave Wright  (Energic)   6677.47

Looking forward to the next one in January.

Mark

  • 4 weeks later...

Its not been looking very good all week, but the weather has finally made its mind up!

Rain all morning, clearing after lunch if you are lucky, with the wind turning from SE to WSW during the day.

Even snow forecast for higher ground!

So on that basis,  tomorrows Winter League is OFF!

Evening all,

Just confirming that the next round of the northern winter league is on for tomorrow.

There is a risk of the odd shower around midday, and rain later on, but the morning and early afternoon look good with a strong southerly forecast.

Meet 9 - 9.30 on the south slope to start as soon as poss thereafter.

Regards

Mark

Results from today's round of the Northern Winter League as follows:

We had a pretty wild ride today! The day started with clear skies and a moderate southerly of around 30mph, which rapidly picked up to a fairly steady 40 to 45mph. After 6 rounds though, the wind picked up to around 60mph as a front came through, before settling back down to approx. 50mph for a further 3 rounds. At this point we packed in as the windspeed again picked up and continued building beyond 60mph.

With 12 of us at the event, there was little time to sit around, and the flight times were pretty impressive from everyone. 10 Of the 12 fliers flew sub 40's at some point, with some flying sub-40 either every round or most rounds, and with a 28.90 as the fastest time. The strong conditions did bring a few casualties, but generally there was an excellent standard of flying throughout the day in very challenging conditions despite everyone feeling as though we had been severely battered by the end of the day.

Final scores after 9 rounds were:

1  Mark Redsell - FS4.3                              1000   (7982.7)

2  Paul Upton - N115                                     923    (7373.2)

3  Paul Garnett - N124                                   915    (7306.7)

4  Peter Gunning - Stinger                              904    (7217.8)

5  Rich Bago - N115/N124                              866    (6914.8)

6  Tom Foreman - Stinger                               865    (6912.2)

7  Dave Watson - Stinger                                841    (6719.1)

8  Mike McKracken - Stinger/Pike Precision   827    (6603.3)

9  Frank Hulton - Willow                                  823    (6570.9)

10 John Tideswell - FS3                                  724    (5783.7)

11 Keith Wood - N124/FS3                             437     (3491.6)

12 Egon Lewin - Strega/Sting                          434    (3467.4)

Fastest time - 28.90 - Mark Redsell

Please note that the Reserve date has kicked in, so the next competition date is Saturday15th February.
