Alan Posted February 26, 2014 Author Share Posted February 26, 2014 Hi All It all started last year as I was looking at some old plans, when I came across a plan of An ASW17 by Mike Trew for a 157.5 inch span and 1/5th sc. I hoped to get the plans enlarged by 50% but when I got them back it was enlarged by 100%, so I went for it. When I was looking over the plans I decided to make the fuselage in 2 parts, so I got started on the back half, the spruce longers I changed to pine. When I finished the back half of one side, I put the keel for the second half on to it so as to get them the same. To get the back and front to meet up I put all the holes into the formers for the rods to be glued in the front half and slide into the back to keep it all together. I have fixed it by a bolt which locks it to carbon glass strips which is glued and screwed to the loungers. The two back halves put together and the two front halves to make the fuselage. Two tail parts, one rudder, the wings will be in four parts, when I get to them. So a total of nine parts to be put together at the field or slope. When I put the two halves together it was 1mm out , so not too bad. I am cutting out the formers in the fuselage for the cockpit, doing the u/c doors and putting on the tail, so I can work on the back half while the glue dries on the front. I have put the leads in for the two servos in the tail, one in each half of the tail, the tail plugs into the fin and one bolt in each half to lock it on.
