The morning started off sunny but chilly with a decent wind blowing 7ms just south of SW on East Lomond.

So we set up a little round to the left on East Lomond and got cracking as the wind was forecast to swing. Conditions were good in the first couple of rounds but the sun was a little bit tricky when launching and pumping. Peter set the pace in the first two rounds with a 49.68 and a 47 dead with Dave not far behind on a 51 and a 49. Robert and Mike also flew well to bag 51’s in round 2.

Mike got on the pace in round 3 winning it with a 46.90 but cut in round 4 and landed a disappointing 60. Dave dropped away a bit in rounds 3 & 4 while Peter  had some decent air and bagged a couple of 46’s to cement the lead. Ian had a good long fly and a walk in rounds 3 & 4 with an impromptu landing but managed to complete the rounds in decent time.

By rounds 5 & 6 the wind had noticeably swung to SSE so the times slowed considerably and it was a bit tricky. Mike managed a 54 and a 57 taking round wins in both while Peter flew a decent 57 and then a 68 with two cuts! George was improving throughout the day and was 2nd in round 6.

So the results were:
1          Peter Gunning               4945.21            1000.00            Jedi
2          Mike McCracken           4860.23            982.81              Precision
3          David Watson                4507.59            911.50              Pitbull
4          George Young                4338.00            877.21              Precision
5          Robert Carson               4241.39            857.67              Fosa
6          Ian Stewart                    3667.29            741.58              Ceres
Peter Gunning FTD 46.26

Pretty close between me and Mike, Dave a solid 3rd and pretty close between George and Robert.

We stopped for a lunch break and by the time we were ready to start again the wind was well round to the east and not flyable for a comp so we decamped to Pillars of Hercules for some hippy cake and refreshments before heading home, a short but decent start to the winter league.

Great start to the winter league. I must practice cut recoveries more! Or not cut in the first place!

Now we're talking - a healthy dose of slope racing and hedonism all in the same afternoon!

Congrats on the win Pete.

Cheers,

Greg

Well done Pete and to Mike and Dave on 2nd & 3rd.

Any EPP fliers North of the border that could join you for a taster?

Martin

Well, I called it on yesterday with a decent wind forecast, the only unknown was whether the road up East Lomond would be passable as they dont salt it.

Well it was for Ewan's Subaru so he ferried us up in 3's to the top car park. By the time we were all assembled a cloud had descended on the top of the hill and looked to be getting steadily lower so we had to abandon. Not for lack of trying!

We found a good snow man in the car park (Dave Watson photo).

So we retired to the Pillars of Hercules for cake, coffee and chat. Better luck next time!

We had a great day today on West Lomond, the weather was cold but mainly sunny and the wind was almost exactly as forecast so by noon it was pretty much square on and blowing about 20mph.

Mike made a good start winning the round with a 41.05 followed by Ewan a thousandth of a second behind him both flying new models in a comp for the first time and looking good. George won the second round with a 40.86 closely followed by Mike again but the times were fairly tightly bunched in the 40-46 second range.

In round 3 Mike got some good air to post a very well flown 37.89 with Ewan second on 41.xx. This was the start of Mike really starting to put his stamp on the competition with a string of sub 40’s when no one else was getting close, in the end winning 8 of the 14 rounds… Hence its going to get boring if I go through every round; Mike won rounds 3 to 8 with 5 sub 40’s before I finally hooked one in round 7 to come second in the round.  The pattern was established early with Mike leading from Ewan then Peter until round 7 when Peter edged up into 2nd.

Peter finally managed to win a round with a 38.80 in round 9 from Dave Watson who was trying to figure out what he had to do to go sub-40 and finished with a 40.75. Dave’s Pitbull looked to be going fast all day. In round 10 Peter hooked some really good air to fly FTD with a 35.07 from George with a very well flown 38.71 and Dave with a 40.05. Ian Stewart flew very smoothly all day and got a 42.86 in round 10.

Mike won round 11 with a 39.97 and Peter won 12 with a 37.50 and was starting to close the gap at this point. Mike decided to land in the rotor after round 12 and wounded his FS4.3 a bit, at the same time the wind had started to drop. So the last two rounds were a bit slower, Peter won round 13 with a 45.06 and George took round 14 with a 45.94, Mike had some crappy air and flew a damaging 53.29 and 54.85, this was enough for Peter to edge in front in the last round to win by a narrow margin.

The Results:

1          Peter Gunning                           12551.88          Jedi

2          Mike McCracken                       12496.98          FS4.3

3          Ewan Maxwell                            11821.27          Jedi

4          David Watson                            11772.04          Pitbull

5          George Young                           11770.17          Pike Precision

6          Ian Stewart                                10589.84          Ceres

FTD Peter Gunning 35.07

So I should apologise to Mike, I was fairly convinced he had won it after creaming all of us for 8 rounds, still very well flown all day I think you will go well with the FS4. Well done to Ewan too on his 3rd place, the Jedi was going well and it was a good close battle between you, Dave and George.

It’s a very long walk to West Lomond and I’m sure we’ll all be feeling it now but what a fantastic hill it is on days like today. Equal to the Bishop? Maybe, just maybe.

Well done guys, glad you had a great days flying.

Pete could you send the spreadsheet to Mark Treble for him to upload and update the Scotish league on GBSRA.

Thanks

Martin

It's done Martin but he's on holiday just now, I'm sure he'll sort it in due course.
