Recommended Posts

Hi All

Our slope nationals are coming up soon with 60" Foamie racing on the Saturday (29th Aug) and F3F on the Sunday. Entry will be £5 per day with trophies for the top 3 both days and FTD Sunday.

You can either reply on here to enter, PM me or e-mail to petergunning@btinternet.com

Last year was great fun with good conditions on Bishop for the foamies and close racing in lightish air on East Lomond for the F3F.

Peter

We have had a disappointing entry for the 60” racing on Saturday (3 locals & 2 intrepid visitors) so I have had to cancel the day as foamie racing is just not viable with 5.

Entry for the F3F is slightly better with 4/5 locals and 2/3 visitors so we will still run an F3F competition on the Sunday.

The forecast for Saturday is good, Sunday is very changeable at the moment so we will see.

John & Mark Treble are still coming so there are five of us confirmed for sport flying on the Saturday and its looking very much like a good wind on East Lomond so that should be fun. It would be a shame not to use a free pass for both days!

Hopefully we will get a better entry for two days F3F at Slopeglide on 31st October / 1st November.

We had a good sport fly today on East Lomond in a really good blow. Followed by a short practice comp which was fun (apart from my massive flick and ‘touch & go’ fly through!).

The forecast is looking good for tomorrow with another good south westerly blow.

We will meet in the East Lomond car park at 10am and aim for a swift start.

We flew 17 rounds today on East Lomond in varying wind strengths through the day between about 5 and 10ms.

We had 8 flying and a not very well John Treble stalwart buzzer man (thanks John), so the turn out was pretty good in the end.

The comp got started at about 11am and the local knowledge paid off early for Peter and Mike taking the first 4 rounds, two each with times in the low 50’s. East Lomond is a funny old hill with zero compression and strangely little lift close in, by round 5 Mark Redsell was starting to work it out with round wins in 5 and 7 and FTD of 44.68 in the latter. This moved him ahead of Mike where he stayed for the rest of the day.

George had an up and down day but a round winning 47.81 cheered him up a bit in round 9. Mark Treble chipped away at his times through the day and by round 10 had a good round win with a 45.40. Ewan had been sitting 4th early on and scored his only sub-50 of the day in round 11, more were required in the latter stages to stay in contention and he dropped away towards the end. Saying that, it does become a bit of a stamina contest after 15 rounds! Craig had a good run in round 12 and finished 3rd in the round with a 51.73

Mark Treble scored another good round win in 14 with a 48.51 and 48.xx was the round winning time for most of the latter rounds, the scoring being really quite tight in the main with a range from 48 – 52 seconds. Mike had a string of sub-50’s to finish and Mark R had a very fast 45.58 in round 16, by which time the sun had come out. Ian Stewart saved his best till last showing great stamina to record a 54.82.

All in all a good day, with 136 timed runs, no zeros, no damaged models and only a few of re-flights.

The results were:

1          Peter Gunning               14739.29          1000.00

2          Mark Redsell                 14448.03          980.23

3          Mike McCracken           14268.35          968.04

4          Mark Treble                   13941.21          945.85

5          George Young               13514.22          916.88

6          Ewan Maxwell                13352.05          905.88

7          Ian Stewart                    12199.83          827.70

8          Craig Maxwell                11872.54          805.50

FTD Mark Redsell 44.68

Thanks to everyone for coming, I am much relieved it turned out OK in the end!

It was a busy day but thourghly enjoyable, as was the whole weekend. We were kept on the go all day and confess I am cream crackered tonight!

We were fortunate to have good, but different, conditions both days which added to the fun.

Thanks to all for making it a memorable couple of days.

Thanks Peter and all of you for a great day out. It's a privilege to be able to enjoy our hobby in such beautiful surroundings. Congrats Peter on the win - you ceratinly know the right line for the hill and flew it very well all day. Hopefully slopeglide will prove equally enjoyable later this year.
