I will let Mark R respond on which slopes will be used.  Weather call will be as before and final slope locations will be updated if needed on the Saturday evening if we need to change any meet locations.

Hi All,

there are 3 possible slope locations 'up north' for this event (to be able to cover just about every wind direction). They are some distance apart, so the most likely location will be notified as soon as the wind direction looks stable, and confirmed on the Friday evening.

The most likely area will be near/around Hawes (DL8 postcode), North Yorkshire (for N-WNW, WSW to E through South)

The next most likely is Pule Hill, near to Marsden (HD7 postcode), North Yorkshire (WSW to WNW (primarily for a due West wind)

Least likely is the East coast, near Tunstall (HU12 post code), for ENE to NNE.

For anyone looking to stay overnight near the slope, please allow for the late calling of the specific slope, particularly if it looks like the east coast.

Some of these slopes offer the potential for some really great F3F, so if you fancy a change of scenery get your name on the list and have a go.

regards

Mark

All, quick update on how it's looking for Sunday - the wind has been showing wnw to north all week, predominantly dry all day. If the forecast stays this way we will be on a slope near to Hawes.

Final call will be either Friday evening (or Saturday morning if there is any doubt.)

All,

Sunday's forecast looks ok so the comp is on.

Winds seem to be light WNW-NW, with a the possibility of a little light rain, but mostly dry. As the forecast wind speeds have been dropping over the last 48 hours there will be another check tomorrow morning before 10am, with notification of any changes.

Please meet at 9am at the location shown on the map. The grid ref as measured from google earth is  54 15' 48.73N, 2 12' 44.22W. There is a track running diagonally off the road right at the point where it flattens coming out of Hawes/Gayle - drive along this track for about 250m and park just to the side to allow other vehicles to pass through. We will be flying straight in front of the cars so there is no 'walk' to the slope - models can be assembled by the cars. Please don't park too far along the track otherwise we may be flying over the cars when coming in for landing.

No flying before the comp - we will get the course up and running for an early start.

Thanks to everyone who made it out to Hawes today. The weather turned out better than expected against the latest forecasts, with the wind speed settling at round 10m/s, with the occasional thermal and sink thrown in to make things a bit more lively. We had some initial glitches with the timing gear(apologies), but started cranking through the rounds pretty quickly with 12 flown in total.

Simon Thornton flew extremely well to take the win, Martin Newnham in 2nd and Mark Redsell in 3rd place. The attached table gives a bit of a view of the day, with the thermals playing their part in the switching of positions.

Some good flying from everyone in very pleasant sunshine for most of the day. Well done to all, especially the top 3. FTD was Martin Newnham with 36.76 (one of only 2 sub-40's, both Martin's).

Mike - the table shows the evolving placings taking all previous rounds into account (not the position within the individual round).

So for me, I was in 1st place from round 4 to round 9 (and then had 2 very poor sets of air to drop me relative to Martin, Simon. I always find this kind of table interesting, particularly from round 4 onwards as that is where the comp result would be valid (and the drop has kicked in).

It was a really interesting comp and a great day out despite the trauma of being up first with a faulty TX!

Not Hawes at its best I suspect, I look forward to going back when its on song.

Also looking forward to having a look at the spreadsheet when its available.
