Bruce Kimball (USA) launches a Free-Flight DLG.  There's a huge left yaw after launch.  RC DLGs have a monster fin to sort this out but a FF model can't do that - you need a smaller fin for a good stable FF glider that has to maintain a steady turn automatically.  This flight DT'd from twice launch height to make the 2 minute max OK.

A little ice on the cars this morning!

For car fans, we saw this 'weaponised' Pontiac Bonneville outside Denny's a couple of days ago....

Comes from a cowboy museum...

Paul Chapman, GBR, wins F1J!

Nice conditions after a cold start.  Paul did 5x2:00 + 5:00 + 4:56.  We radio DT'd the last one at 4:00 going for 5:00.  We knew that the only other flyer left had model trouble and we knew he couldn’t fly so any flight by Paul was a winner. Shame we made it miss by four seconds but we kept it out of the trees and that was more important.

Picture has, L to R, Faust Parker, Texas, 3rd, Mike Roberts, Washington State, 2nd, Paul Chapman 1st.

It is good to see Paul Chapman in the results again! Give him my regards and tell him I'll see him in France when I get better!

Not really model flying but with a clear blue sky and lots of air traffic you need to look out for a picture opportunity...

Waiting for the 0700 briefing before the Canada Cup.  Wind and some rain forecast but so far only a few drops....

First round was partly wet and with an increasing breeze onto the nearest Orchard for some of the time.  Round two was breezy with the wind into clear ground but models were going a long way.  Then it warmed up and calmed to pleasant conditions with much lighter winds.  No further rain enabled all 5 rounds to be completed.  Large flyoffs resulted.

5 survived a 6 minute max in F1C  and then 4 flew F1Q.  F1Q was resolved with a 303 best flight.

Then a strong wind got up and we gave up.  Thursday's forecast is dire and Friday is the Max Men F1A event at 0800. Possibly we can fly at 0700 on Friday....

Alan Jack was mistimed in the first F1C fly-off, maxed but was given short.  Mark Benns and Mike Woolner are in F1B and John Carter is in F1A.

Many chose to  keep their models in the box for another day, Cooper and Faux included.

The day ended with a party on the field with ‘champagne’, nibbles and sandwiches.  And flowers for the ladies - Valentine's Day tomorrow....

Forecast for you guys is merely a peak of 30mph after rain, so a typical 'Gamage Cup' day then.  Put on the wellies and get to it !

The Chinese timekeeper must have timed the wrong model - an occupational hazard in Free Flight.  Sometimes it works in your favour.  Al's model DT'd for a max.

It's been a hectic week with  all sorts of weather.  Thursday was a non-contest day and was blown and washed out after calming start.   Friday was Max Men F1A.  Round two was interrupted by rain then restarted with 45 mins to go.  John Cooper dropped and stopped.  The last round was delayed in very windy but bright conditions.  John Carter had an attempt then a poor launch but hit lift and was one of only four to max out.  Towing was tough in the near-limit wind.  It was then too late to fly-off.

Saturday's forecast was good and Wednesday's fly-offs and Friday's fly off were held before the Max Men F1B/C comps started.  Two F1A flyers were in both F1A fly-offs.  John Carter and Jama Danier.  John did nice flights but didn't place.  Jama won both.  All other fly-offs gave conclusions.  A good day's flying followed in the B/C events.

We had 3 in B and 2 in C.  Sadly none made the fly-offs.  The flew 6 and 8 minute fly-offs in B and about 6 made both.

Only  2 survived in C.  Fly offs were held this morning in a breeze and light rain.  Larissa from Russian had a nice flight in C and the Mongolian flyer couldn't get his engine to run - an unfortunate ending.

In B,  I timed Kulakovsky for just over 6 but saw another model higher and further away - probably the winning flight.  Sorry scores and names are not to hand.

The mini contest today was abandoned after two rounds to restart at 0730 on Monday, the reserve day.  It was blowing hard out there with cold showers coming through.  Phil Ball has a max and 98 secs in F1G.  Gary Madelin maxed the first, don't have a second score for him yet.  The other Brits opted for a trip to Morro Bay, where the Libertine may see their custom, I think....

I'll post a link to results if I get one.

Gary Madelin wins Max Men F1H!

Monday morning was sunny and looked breezy at the Motel in town.  Given road conditions over the mountains on the direct route to Los Angeles,  Most of us opted to drive south a day early, along the coast, adding several hours to our trip.  Six of us stayed at Ventura on Monday night.

Gary was out at the field winning.
