I forgot to mention I'm bringing a friend.

Absolute novice. Hence the two wildthings and some extra foamie stuff in the box. With some luck, he will use that stuff up and we don't have to take it home.  😁

But that isn't plan-a.

Hi JP - there are a number of slopes, including multiple for similar wind directions.  The site would therefore depend on the wind for the day, as well as the consensus  / feelings of the rest.  I have a document giving directions to the various sites - I can send you a copy if you PM me your email address.

Anyone is free to phone me anytime on (0)87 929 7071.

It looks like conditions might be on the light end of the wind scale (particularly for here), so bring floaty stuff (if enough of you bring floaty stuff, that should guarantee a strong blow!)

I'm bringing you a floaty Q12 Chris.

Thanks Jerry, but if you have any space problems, please don't make a special effort.  I'm not very positive about the hobby right now: it seems I won't be able to fly with you guys, as I have been unsuccessful in renewing my membership of the national body  MACI this year (been fine  renewing it annually for 14 years, but everything - including insurers and rules - has changed now) so I have no insurance 😖

Anyone wanna guess why all the changes 🤨 ?

Doesn't the BMFA allow guest flyers?

I checked my insurance and I don't seem to have that provision.

i think it is ok as long as they are with an instructor or someone that's held a B certificate for more than 12 months.

I'm a BMFA certified instructor.

But not sure on the rules in Ireland.

This is the Republic of Ireland, not part of the UK. I'm not sure about the BMFA - I've made some inquiries but no useful information yet..

I need to ask you about this "B" cert. thing; as that is the other way I could get insurance with MACI as a "Non-club" member.  But I'm not sure if there is such a thing for someone who fly's gliders only (and doesn't know how to taxi, take off, land on a strip, etc.)?

Woodstock it would be great if you could still make it.

I can relate, our national body had us jumping through some ridiculous hoops recently. A 100m hight restriction was narrowly avoided but it's all pretty bad.

Shall we organise in a telegram or WhatsApp group perhaps? Since we are all quite spread and decisions will likely be made ad-hoc.

in the U.K. you don't need to be a member of a club to join the BMFA and get insured and it covers all types of flying.

The BMFA have a slope 'B' -
http://achievements.bmfa.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/SilentFlight-BSlope-2018.pdf

and Google turned this up -

http://maci.ie/wp-content/uploads/Education/MACI-Training-Booklet-2017-4.pdf

which also has a slope 'B'.

MACI want 75€ and won't insure people who don't fly at club sites. Ouch.
