Tungsten Ballast

Recommended Posts

Paul Gleeson

Ordered this of eBay to put some ballast in my Strike 2.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-x-99-95-Pure-Tungsten-Metal-Rod-Round-Bar-Diameter-10mm-Length-50mm

Long delivery time as it comes via sea freight, but a good price. Weighs 76g

I can fit 20mm easily in my Strike 2, so 30g in a 120g plane 25% increase.

Should help in stronger winds.

I have a friend with a lathe.  Hopefully that will work.

Or I do have access to some bigger stuff at work.

A better option is tungsten welding rods.  I think Richard uses them.  They are not pure and are easy to snap, I believe.

I use tungsten fishing weights which are pre drilled.  A bit expensive but work well and come in different sizes.
