Whats in it for me?

As the title says really, why do some of use enjoy flying comps when others run a mile?

How about a quick one liner from those that do, headed by the comp type.

Try to keep each one different and like those that apply to you.

and a quick one liner from those that don't.

Then we can have a round up and a few days and a discussion later.

Day away on a hillside - no trouble & strife - no DIY - 40 seconds of pure concentration...

70 odd seconds of pure concentration in my case!

F3F

I've competed in the ‘friendly’ winter league a few times now and had fun. Never placed anywhere other that bottom though! So far I’ve only flown my Sunbird, which far from ideal for F3F, is my backup glider and it seems every time I go to a comp my Pike and Willow pick up snags :(

F3K

This is something I want to get into. I’ve got myself a nice (competitive?) DLG and like the idea of handlaunching into a thermal so I’m going to try attend some F3K events.

Buzzermen have been known to have an actual picnic (ok maybe just a sandwich) while I slow down proceedings somewhat :o

Was it at the Nationals this year that I fell asleep while on the buzzer?

F5j seems to be very popular but it seems that you need to spend big to compete.

That’s why I’m looking at F3k. 1.5m span limit and no motor expenses! Pilot skill, plus maybe luck (like every discipline I guess), is the the difference between winning and losing :)
