Pulled PETG canopy thickness

Recommended Posts

Wssoarer

Hi all,

I am planning to pull a new PETG canopy for my 5m ASW17, it will be the first canopy I have done so any advice on thickness sheet to start with, maybe 1mm? Also how much the PETG will likely thin as I want to size th plug so that the finished canopy is a perfect flush fit with the fuz. Oh yea and how much bigger sheet should I start with than the canopy dimensions of 42cm * 25cm

That seems like a lot of questions but any help you experienced guys can offer would be very much appreciated.

thanks

steve

Sorry I can't give direct experience on this, but am interested as I need to make a replacement canopy for a very old Sailplanes International glider.  Do you mean vacuum forming?  There are a few threads to be found on forums, and sites which offer the service using your plug.  Sheet thickness is mentioned in both below, and the RCG forum has photos and tips on technique.

I used 1mm PETG for my 1/4 scale FOKA 4. It has given me a very nice rigid canopy - about 450mm long
