severngoose
Can anyone suggest any slopes near Brecon, say within 10 miles or so, my Fusion needs an outing ! thanks Tim
oipigface
The Bwlch is the obvious answer!
severngoose
I was really looking for a slope nearer Brecon, perhaps there isn’t any ? tim
oipigface
There’s the escarpment of the Beacons. Lots of places there, so I’m told - I haven’t flown any of them myself.. Rhigos mountain is probably one of the most accessible. Is there nothing on Steve Houghton’s A470 soaring website? I’m hoping to do a bit of exploring around there myself not too far in the future. Funny no one more knowledgeable than me has replied.
severngoose
Thanks for that, nothing suitable on the A470 site except Bwlch, slopehunter shows Lyn Cwm Llwch Bowls for N/NE winds just south of Brecon. But has anyone flown there ? Come on you Welsh Slopers ! Tim
Skip
I've not flown anywhere near Brecon. I've done quite a few of the faces in the Brecon Beacons though. None of which are within 10 minutes or so of Brecon. A Fusion is a foamy yes? Find a steep riverbank? Cutting on the side of a road? It doesn't need much! severngoose
I quite agree, I have a modest slope soarer which is looking for a modest slope not too far from Brecon, but it will take some legwork & local knowledge to find oneI Incidentally the Lyn Cam bowl is just below Pen y Fan & that takes some getting to ! Baldyslapnut
Join Slope Soaring in Wales on facebook. They may be more help than the advice you are getting here. Having lived in Wales I would suggest 10 minutes drive is only 3 miles so you may need to be a bit more ambitious. Greg
severngoose
Greg. It was 10 miles actually or thereabouts. Tim
paulj
I would of thought Hay Bluff would be good. I have flown it full size - it's a nice edge! I guess you can drive up gospel pass and find somewhere to park?
