Are there any slopes to fly in London?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I would love to have a go at slope/hill soaring with my little Alula. I live in Acton/London and am wondering if there is somewhere I can try that is not to far from me?

Many thanks

Marc

I guess it is possible with an Alula, they don't need much slope at all :)

Your main concern however is the Glideslope running into Heathrow!
These new FRZs around airports mean you need permission from the relevant ATC to fly anything.

I wouldn't like to be the one phoning Heathrow asking if I could fly...

Will look up thx.

I believe Ivinghoe is the nearest to London. @pete beadle would be the best person I know to advise on that.

Flying in London doesn’t sound like a very relaxing experience anyway.

Or - further from Acton - go SE to Thurnham in Kent.

And beyond that - look on slopehunter.co.uk

Or as I found of recent www slope.com has the odd one slopehunter doesn't.

Always worth a cross reference but slopehunter on Google maps is a lot easier

Hi Marc

I think you have forgotten you have already asked this question previously..........

You also seem to have forgotten I answered you........I suggested Northwick Park Open Space and Wormwood Scrubs........now I know you have used the Scrubs as it is your local field.....it just isn't run by a club

As I and others have said........every big bump in the ground is a slope for an Alula:)

By all means come to Ivinghoe we'll welcome you......but how are you going to get there? (the nearest postcode to the Beacon is LU7 9DP which is the village of Ivinghoe Aston which lies almost in the shadow of Beacon Hill,,,,,have a look.......

Regards

Pete

Thank you for all the help and advice. Those slope hunting internet sites look very interesting. I will be bump hunting for little Alula :)

And don't forget you need BMFA insurance to fly at Ivinghoe.

David.
