Nan Models Xplorer 3, 3.8m F5J

Hi,

I would like to find the best propeller for this model, at present it has a 14 x 7 aero-nought cam prop.

I have read several forums and contacted Nan Models, but no reply after a week and a half.

Some forums recommend GM 14 x 7, RFM 12.5 x8 or a Hdoye 12 x 6.5.

If someone out there could recommend the best prop for this, I would be very grateful

Thanks in advance

The best prop will be hugely influenced by the motor and gearbox and the current delivery capability of your battery. These factors will be much more important than the airframe. More info required for any advice to be meaningful.

Maybe you could help us help you with answers to these -

How many cells in the (LiPo?) battery?

C Rating of the Cells?

KV (speed per volt) rating of the motor?

Does it have a gearbox between the motor and the prop?

Max Motor current?

Max ESC current?

I have looked through my e-mails for the details of what is fitted in the Xplorer:

HET 200, Resonair gearbox

ESC128 (BEC)

Battery 3S, Turnigy 2200mAh 40-50c discharge.

I am reluctant to take it apart to find exactly what is in there

Unfortunately to be able to help ,more  info is still needed to calculate an answer.

There are many  different types of HET motor so it is improtant to know which one. I cant say I recognise your esc, but that is not so important.

As an example, a popular combination was a HET 2W-20  with a Reiseneaur 5-1. gearbox

If your model weighs around 1750g , then with a 14 x 7 prop this would give you a clime rate of about 1300ft.per minute pulling about 40Amp.

A  12.5 x 8 would give less  clime performance.

But these numbers would change if the motor is a different version.

Hope that helps

Hi Shayne

If this is the Xplorer you bought from me a while ago the setup is as below.

Xplorer airframe with 3.8 metre Xplorer 3 wing.
Turnigy 777 servos on flaps.
Turnigy 306 servos on ailerons.
Bluebird 105 HV servos on rudder + elevator.
HET 2W motor with Reisenaur 5:1 gearbox.
Aeronaut 13 X 11 cam carbon prop.
YEP 60A programmable esc.
5 A Ubec.

I flew the model with a 1300Mah 3 cell Turnigy Nanotech lipo  and it performed faultlessly.

I am not sure why you want to change the prop. I selected this prop for best climb to 200 metres whilst pulling around 44A from the battery.

perfectly within spec for a 60A ESC...

If it is ex Steveh don't mess with it. Just fly and enjoy. Steve will have optimised it. I am still enjoying a Shadow I bought from him years ago. All I have done to it is wear out lots of batteries!

Good advice from all thanks, The only reason I was changing the props was to, bling up a perfect glider, with a carbon prop.  I have had a few 45 minute plus glides with this over Dartmoor

It shall remain the same
