1S LiPo with FrSKY Vario no issues ūüėČ

Stupid question... Can you use frysky vario with spektrum tx's.

I'm guessing this is a stupid question.

You would have to make a protocol convertor and if you are going to do that, you might as well just make your own vario.

There is a hack to use a FrSky vario plumbed into the voltage sensor input of a Spektrum receiver. You then use differing alarm tones for up or down.

Crude but effective!

Though I don't think this is what you were asking about :D

Depends if you want the vario tones, or altitude logging.... Hacking the FrSky vario give you crude tones only.

Varios on DLGs are limited in their use. The DLG will indicate what the air is doing way before the vario reacts.

I have found an ar610 laying the draw (as you do).

Would this suffice for initial flights?

No telemetry but I'm thinking to get the ar6270T and I dont want to blow £60 if it dont fit in the Toro.

Yep will work ok, folks fly 1.5m on the ar400.

its just whether the top pin configuration will fit in your plane.

Only downside to the ar400/610 is failsafe only on the throttle channel which will be your left aileron usually.

I use uncased LM0052 receivers in DLGs.

They work really well btw. The only reservation I have is about where to route the antennas when there is so much carbon around.

As for battery power... 2S LiFe if space allows or 1S LiPo with a 5v booster if not. I've also got some small 4.8v NiMH packs but they are quite heavy so only used if nose weight is needed.

I've found with DLGs you need to buy a specialist battery (or more!) for each model. Not found two that use the same pack!!!

Hi Tony,

New  to DLGs and also using a LM0052 with a Matek booster for 1s use in a Toro. Do you use the voltage probe to get voltage readings from the 1S? If so did you have to recalibrate the sensor? Basically just wanting to be able to know when to change battery before disaster strikes...like a nose dive from 10m because the battery just went dead.

I haven't actually got round to installing the Voltage probe on my boosted 1S packs. I just have telemetry for the receiver voltage and seeing as that is regulated it is of little value.

A couple of reasons seem to keep stopping me. At first I thought that maybe red and black wires would be needed to avoid the ground using the regulator but I now think just red should be ok, it's where to put the wire, there's not much to go at on the short battery to booster wire.

The reg does have a couple of LEDs on to show  battery state so I usually do an overhead pass where I can make out the green LED to let me know all it good.

Probably not something you would want to do in F3K though!

You can't measure a 1S voltage in the LM00552 as flight pack voltage only registers down to 4.5V

I tried, and confirm with Lemon this is the case.

Thanks Tony and Paul,

Paul did you use the voltage probe?

Have now successfully¬†set my LM0052 to use the voltage probe.¬†¬†First¬†blew¬†my booster board through sheer stupidity ūü§Į¬†(replacement on order). But then¬†used an¬†Arduino board as a work around (no ESC¬†to hand) to have a 2S fully charged 8.4V as the¬†reference voltage for¬†the calibration when setting the rx to use¬†the¬†probe,¬† with¬†5V¬†going to the rx through the Arduino. ¬†Set up a new telemetry channel (DX6 G3) ¬†for "Volts" as opposed to the "Rx V" and could read 4.2 volts off a fully charged 1S. However, that maybe just the bottom of the voltage¬†range that can be read. I'll make some more measurements and come back to you but sounds like you have done this testing Paul.

I used the booster to power the RX and tried to measure the 1S lipo voltage via the flight pack voltage input.
As I Said it did not work as the voltage sensing of the flight pack does not work down to 3.7V

Maybe a some circuit to add the 5V from the booster and the 1S lipo voltage? Then it might work.
No idea if such circuit would be worth effort and space to fit it

You can get 2S 180mah packs if the fits.
I switched to FrSky for the programming features in OpenTX.
The g-rx6 RX is tiny full telemetry and on 1S

i have a Toro well 2 to be fair and so dose my mate and a couple of 1.5m BLG,s as well and all single cell

I have a 750mah single cell in mine and I fly all day on that with No telemetry at all and don't even worry as if its going to go flat on my

I normally don't even bother to check it unless I have taken it out at least 3 times flying with me as they use so little power

when I had a 1.5m on a 2 cell that was a different story that would need charging every time I took it flying with me and I always had a second pack yet since I have gone to single cell setup I have never had to charge or change a pack I love the Toro its my fave  DLG and I have sold my Vortex 3 as it just never got took out of its covers and I cant remember the last time I flew my Snipe

Its one fab little glider even on the slope with a bit of lead in it just mucking about

get it in the air and flying as they love to do ūüôā¬†¬†

Are you fixed on using the Spektrum gear?   Getting Frsky equipment will save a lot of headaches with voltage (1S is totally fine) and telemetry and it is reasonably priced.    That said, I run 10yr old Futaba TX with frsky FAAST rx's, but if (when) I was going to change, I don't really see a better option given the costs.
