2019 World FF Champs

I understand that the 2019 World Champs are due to commence at Lost Hills in the USA either today or tomorrow. I understand that Mike Fantham (MikeF) is over there supporting them, and I wish the GB team all the best.

It's cold and dark here at 0500 when we get up and prepare to be out on the field for 0645.  F1A glider was yesterday.  By midday, it was hot and dusty with a breeze in the afternoon but never more than 10 - 12 mph.  The GBR team were out of luck with five flights of the 21 dropped.  John Cooper only lost 8 seconds and was just out of the fly-off.
31 went for 6:00 at 1630 and 19 survived to try for 8:00 at 1730.  Three made it and will go for 12:00 this morning!

Results here.  http://sen.faifreeflight.org/index.php/2762-2019wc-f1a

Pictures are Team GBR, Richard Jack towing in the vaste open space, Chris Edge helping.  Richard's model glides past the moon.

It's over.  Ken couldn’t get his motor started in his chosen model and switched to his reserve. He got away with about 20 seconds of the 7 minutes to go.  It came off the top awkwardly and stalled, losing a lot of height.  It settled into a nice glide but too late...

I've been following the results on SEN but it is nice to know the ins and outs regarding Ken. What happened to Alan Jack, two of his flights weren't good whereas from memory previous Euro and World champs put him up with the leaders?

Al had stalling on his two drops.  He reduced incidence and tightened the glide turn between the two flights with that model.

Flash-back to Sunday morning  F1B winner Mikael Rigault, right, waits for the fly-off to start.  He flew the curved-tip Stefanchuk model.  The second-placed German flew an identical model.  The had launched together but Rigault got the highest - it was all his better launch/burst part of the climb.  The Romanian launched later so Rigault had a tense wait to see what that flight would be....
