Two new dates for GPS events

Two more GPS Triangle dates approved for events at Sherlowe to add to BMFA Buckminster in April.

Today I have been given approval to run two weekends of GPS Triangle training and flying at a private airstrip in Shropshire.  Sherlowe is 5 miles east of Shrewsbury and similar north west of Telford. The dates are May 30th / 31st and September 26th /27th.

These will be full weekend affairs with arrival on Friday night and camping, caravan, motorhomes possible.  John Greenfield, Bernie Jones and I are just working on the format which will be guided by the experience of the Buckminster event in April.  We hope to have some ground school training, then practical flying the course and hopefully a few of rounds of flying against each other.

We are catering for both the Sport class as well as the new Light class.  Both use electric self-launch gliders, to different weight and span criteria and course size, but any electric glider will do to come along and have a try.  Any of the MPX Heron,  Easy glider Pro or Radian foamy glider or similar is fine – you don’t need the latest £2000 F5J models.

We will have some sets of loan equipment available for you to put into your model, so no need to purchase the gear beforehand.  However you will need to register with us and confirm your attendance before the event, so we know numbers for loan gear.

Come along, try it and if you enjoy it then that’s the time to buy the kit and the competitive airframe.

In consultation with Bernie Jones and John Greenfield we have made the decision to cancel the May 30,31st GPS training weekend event at Sherlowe.

Various reasons, but mainly due to Govt guidelines on travelling and we can only go flying if you can drive there and back in one day, a one day event would not be worth it.  We would be uncertain as to the number of people who would actually attend.  Makes more sense to put the effort into a weekend later in the year when it is going to be more safe from C19.

We will keep you all posted on here.

GPS Triangle weekend September 26th /27th.

Well due to the ongoing uncertainty over C19 and in consulation with John Greenfield we would like to get an accurate idea of how many people would come up to Sherlowe and participate in this weekend.
GPS training and a relaxed competition for Sport class and Light class models.

Please email me direct if you plan on attending, so I can get a handle on the numbers.    j.minchell @ btinternet.com
Should we only get a handful, then the event will be cancelled, but we need to know.
Final go or no-go decision will be made in 2 weeks, but please don't leave it till then to email.

You can camp and with your own tent, caravan or motorhome you will need to be self sufficient, as distancing and safety precautions will be adhered to. There is a kitchen for boiling a kettle and a fridge, also ladies and gents toilets. But whether they can be used (as every time they would need to be cleaned/sanitised) will be decided on with the owner, should the event go ahead.

Just giving this a bump chaps as we need a couple more recruits to be sure of running the weekend.

You don't need to have your own GPS electronic gear as we can have 8 sets of loan gear for the weekend.
C19 precautions would prevent swapping between airframes and people though.
But it is 8 more people that can have a go and see it they like it before they spend out on the gear.
You need a 3 to 5 metre span electric launched model with enough room for a couple of oxo cube size bits of gear and a spare Rx channel.

Please email me if you intend to come - j.minchell @ btinternet.com
As per the above post you need to be self sufficient in your caravan, motorhome or tent, as there won't be a communal BBQ / food and passing beers around etc.
We have the use of a large aircraft hangar at Sherlowe, if the weather is inclement, so the ground school / training can still be held so bring a camping chair.

We're looking into it David - more clarification needed from the BMFA & Government for us to make a decision this coming weekend.

Due to the latest Coronavirus restrictions of max 6 people meeting indoors or outdoors and the modest number of confirmed attendees, Bernie, John and myself have taken the decision to cancel this event and to look to putting a couple of GPS weekends training and competitions on next year.

Roll on 2021
