  • FxRES - 2 m RES (Rudder, Elevator, Spoiler) model flying in the UK

    fxres-banner.jpg

These affordable radio-controlled model gliders have a 2m wingspan and fall in to two classes, F3L (formerly F3RES) which are pure gliders, launched with a bungee, commonly in Europe called a high start, and F5RES that launches to a specified height using its own electric motor and propeller, the launch height being determined with a pre-set height limiter device that cuts the motor. The models are predominately wood in construction, with carbon only allowed in spars and leading edges. They are generally not too difficult to build, low-cost servos can be used, around 2 m of covering, a receiver and battery of choice and ready to go! Although many kits and now RTF’s are available to buy, the mainly wood construction also encourages own designs and home builds.

These classes of model gliders have been popular in other parts of Europe and the US for some years, but it is only recently, that interest has been picking up in the UK. Several competitions are held each year and there is also a monthly duration postal challenge.

Model construction rules follow the FAI Sporting code Volume 3

FxRES competition rules can be found in the BMFA - SILENT FLIGHT RULE BOOK

    Facebook group F3-RES and F5-RES – UK

Events and monthly postal duration challenges are posted on the FxRES forum
