    The English Open F3f 2019.

In the few days leading up to the comp, Phil both telephoned & text'd me to explain what he had done / had happened. The details made me wince many times. Since the competition I have passed on everyone at the comps regards & best wishes in his recovery to Phil. Phil's company & friendship was very much missed by all at this yrs competition. Raffle tickets & that's what mates are for;;- I purchased a number of raffle tickets for Phil as a thank you to him for both offering & giving myself & wife Gil, his booked accommodation for the comp. This I did as Phil would not accept anything either for or towards this cost to him. Of these , one of them was the 3rd winning ticket. When deciding which prize I thought Phil would like best I was rudely over ruled by so called 'mates. Instead of the £25.00 voucher to use at Steve webb models that I was going to chose, Phils 'so called mates' said that a selection of Gorrilla glue products was far more appropriate, saying Phil could use the various selection of glues & tape to fix his nose , true but very cruel I thought LOL Phils raffle prize ;- Wishing you continued steady progress in your recover Phil . Stu.

    2nd hand market, in general

It's been a bit to windy to fly for the last couple of days so I've been trawling the second hand market mainly looking at transmitters mainly leaning toward anything German. I don't actually need anything but if I see a bargain! What really has surprised me is, I should go back a little by saying I've flown my Taranis X9D since or shortly after they came out so I sort of know nothing else now, how many makes don't include telemetry, curves, free mixes etc etc. To get what I'm totally used to with Frsky costs quite a lot of money with other manufacturers and even then you don't get everything that my X9D does. Appreciate the likes of Jeti do but you are paying for it. As an example there's a nice Graupner radio going for sale, I have owned Graupner in the past and like the feel of their Tx's, minus any Rx's. Looking at a suitable Rx that's equivalent to my RX8R Pro is at least twice as much to buy and even then it doesn't match the Pro. Now as I said right at the beginning of this thread my X9D and my Plus feel 'plasticky' and I've never seen or held a Horus of any description, but someone has described the feel of one quite nicely I think one would suit me. So on that premise, anyone got an X10 for sale at a good price? I'll be going to the Nats if that helps. Tony

    The English Open F3f 2019.

Good to hear that you had a "cracking" good English Open at Whitesheet Was really sorry to miss it - but something else "cracking" intervened. As some of you heard - On the Friday I was in hospital to straighten (re-break) a broken nose - the whole op theatre GA thing - see pic, not looking too happy just come around. How was it broken? - DIY injury 12 days before - a very long story - and very painful. Moral - don't do DIY - its dangerous Phil.

Help required to identify this please

Yep - its definitely red - definitely RAL3020. Got an aerosol can mixed from express paints to paint over the boom repair - and its an extremely good colour match - bit of sanding & T-Cut to fade out the edges when fully cured & will be looking pretty good http://www.express-paints.co.uk/ral-colours-1/ Phil.

Great video, thanks for sharing! Makes sense of alot of the comments and also the spreadsheet. The wind meter looks excellent, the conditions looked challenging. Sounds like a great do

    World Cup

Hi I will get something together in the next few days and post it here. It was a great WC and the conditions were quite diverse at times. Team GBR flew very well and also got on well as a team. It was the first ever championships that we saw Dynamic Soaring used to fly out a slot. A swiss pilot took a very low launch in tricky windy conditions and DS'd the trees for 10 minutes. I will upload something soon Neil

    World Cup

I enjoyed the video coverage of this comp, particularly with the excellent commentary from Lana. From the videos, the comp looked to be well run with lots of helpers from the local community. Well done to all involved. The low starts attempted and often capitalised upon were something of a revelation to this newbie to F5J, I may even come down from my usual 140m+ start height in future comps...

Frsky Taranis X9D Pluse special edition/T9hobbysport

You raised some good points there EssexBOF, thanks. I see what you mean about the prices of the Jeti receivers... I saved up for a MPX 3030 back in the day (must be about 20 years ago)...Bought it new along with a pretty high tech F3B 3m glider (forgot the name)...Got married not long after purchase and ended up selling both to raise funds for other priorities...Never even got to use them... I am happy to say I am now single, so things are looking up (no disrespect ment to my X) If I had the spare cash I think I would go for the Jeti D12 as it seems to tick all the boxes for me (lightweight, quality build, solid software and the coolest of designs).

    The English Open F3f 2019.

Thanks Stu Yeas, it was certainly an "excellent & rewarding" comp for me. I think I say this after every comp but I really enjoyed it and I really liked the challenge of the "all blow, no go" aspect of the slope. Its easy to fly on slopes that produce massive amounts of lift, this was a completely different challenge. But is still gave a number of sub 40's so there is a bit of go in it, haha. I will definitely be back again for more. Brett
