    Used and Unloved F3F anybody?

Asking for a friend scared of committment. Anybody outing an old or underutilised tidy and capable racing machine? He's looking to step up from Willow Ville..... Have you upgraded recently and dont need your old whip? Andy

    Voltij "slim"

Total drag (including lift induced) maybe upto 90% from the wing but I can't see it being a large proportion of profile drag.

    E6000 glue (Goop equivalent) UK

Hi Sloper, I haven’t tried that one personally. I used to get my Goop direct from the States. For things like securing fins to the fuselage it is as though it’s all a one piece but is flexible. It’s cheap as chips out there but a very superior glue

Thanks for taking the time to explain that Tony.

All other things being equal, a skinny fuz will make a considerable difference. More speed and energy due to reduction in drag. I am surprised that 90% of drag comes from the wing!

Odd i always thought the VoltiJ was quite quick but the fuz was awfully prone to breaking i remember Carpet Pete flying one in an F3F at HOH and getting a 42xx on par with the rest of us with our f3f kit
  9. Oh yes sorry, it's 6th to 7th July. I put the date in the calendar section but not on this post!

I recommend setting the alarm for 5.0v for a 4.8 (4S) Rx pack. Nixx packs are totally different from Lixx, you don't want to go below their rated voltage. A 1S 3.7v LiPo has a working range between 3.6 and 4.2v A 4S 4.8v NiMH can charge up to almost 6v but you don't want to let them get below 4.8v Tony

So after a bit of a delay the Goop has finally arrived, clearly the delivery driver doesn’t understand the words “fragile” but the tube is intact. I note it’s being offered by another seller in Ireland for £5.99 for 110ml tubes which makes it even more of a bargain, the 30ml tubes are £3.99! Now to begin surgery on my Gulp DS

Yep - Aresti is heavier & more heavily loaded (from what I've read) Yep - I also use steel wing joiners for that little-bit-extra - have flown it in 50+mph winds - ballast would help energy, but at the risk of destroying the wings, which are built light with no spar. Phil. link below - flying in a 55mph wind - flying was ok, launching wasn't - crazy...

    Battery checker recommendations

No need to check Tx batteries. I don't use telemetry so I missed the point - sorry. If you can see the Rx voltage on the Tx display, why not put a recently charged Rx battery in the model, waggle your sticks in a frantic way to draw max current and get a feeling for what the lowest voltage is under load. Then you can set you alarm a little below that as a starting point and see how you get on in practice. Batteries with a lower capacity, like your 300 mah pack, will drop their voltage more under load and probably need a different setting for the low voltage alarm. Another consideration is that your gear will quit working if the voltage goes too low during a high current demand, causing a so-called, 'brown out'. The battery will recover if rested.

Thanks mike. I was referring to the batteries inside my gliders which all run at 4.8 volts. I can check my tx battery if it helps.

    Interglide F5J 2019

Big thank you to Pete Allen ,Chas, and Mike plus all the helpers beavering away in the background. Possibly the most enjoyable IG to date . Obviously helped by the UK weather and a challenging flying site. Good accurate report from Steve . I spoke to Julian during Sunday's lunch break and he admitted he could not cope with the UK conditions on Sunday. Congratulations to Steve for a well deserved win . Thanks again Peter G
