^^^^ I was just dropping by to say I won't be attending. Mostly due to the weather, but also my new glider isn't ready. I'll look out for a reschedule. Steve. -

Neil Harrison replied to PaulR's topic in F3K and Handlaunch
Please be aware that we have cancelled the 'Come Try' event scheduled for this Friday due to extremely poor weather forecast, I wanted to let you know as soon as possible so you can make any necessary changes to your travel plans for the weekend. The cut off for competition entry is tomorrow, Thursday, currently the forecast looks promising for Saturday at least, the final call however will be Friday no later than 6.00pm Please get yourselves entered. -
***CANCELLED*** 'Come Try' DLG & F3K Event 2024
Neil Harrison replied to Neil Harrison's topic in F3K and Handlaunch
It is with much regret that we have to cancel the 'Come Try' event scheduled for this coming Friday. Unfortunately the weather forecast is beyond flying limits, we hope to schedule another 'Come Try' event in the summer, more details to follow. -
F3L & F5L competition at Buckminster on the 30th March.
Lawrence D replied to Alex Maxfield's topic in FxRES
I'll be there for F3L. I was holding back as the long range forecasts had not been good for Easter weekend... hopefully Saturday will be possible -
FxRES Comp- BMFA Buckminster 29th March 2024 - Called off
CTR replied to Richard Newsham's topic in FxRES
Shame but understandable. Could have been a test for the RES Raven high wind wing! Having said that, it’s not very sensible to try the latest version out at a comp! Unfortunately won’t be there for the Saturday either Neil P -
FxRES Comp- BMFA Buckminster 29th March 2024 - Called off
Pete in Northiam replied to Richard Newsham's topic in FxRES
Good call to cancel Friday. Saturday's forecast is better but still uncertain as of now. And good point for all our contests more broadly. I wonder if we should open all this year's contests for entry - or at least expressions of interest - so we can all show out intentions? I've already entered Radioglide. Weather, school holidays and other events intervene for all of us... -

FxRES Comp- BMFA Buckminster 29th March 2024 - Called off
Richard Newsham replied to Richard Newsham's topic in FxRES
I have called the Friday 29th March 2024 FxRES competition off due to high wind speeds reported by multiple weather websites. I don't know if potential competitors were holding off for a weather call to make a final decision to attend or had made their own minds up not to participate due to the uncertainty of the weather, but with only a couple of people expressing interest in participating in the competition I'm not sure a competition would have been viable even if the weather had been okay. It is important to let the CD know, via the BARCS forum for the competition, if you are interested in participating in the competition. -
F3L & F5L competition at Buckminster on the 30th March.
Pete in Northiam replied to Alex Maxfield's topic in FxRES
Current forecast for Saturday from ECMWF shows mean wind 13mph (6m/s) gusting 24mph (11 m/s) with showers after noon. But other forecasts show wide range of wind and rain so I take it as high uncertainty so far. More data in the forecasts runs tomorrow should narrow that. --Pete -

I noticed too but don't have an F5 option. How many have responded in total so far, @martynk? I realise not everyone may have posted here. Are we already quorate for the two classes? -
F3L & F5L competition at Buckminster on the 30th March.
Richard Newsham replied to Alex Maxfield's topic in FxRES
Hi Martyn It looks like you may be struggling to make a team up for F3L and F5L. If it is of any help I can try my hand at F5L to at least try and make a team. Sorry to Pete in Northiam if it makes F3L a non viable proposition. If you do suddenly receive an influx of people participating I still would like to fly F3L. Regards Richard -

Thanks for the spreadsheet Jon. A very equitable comp (in one way) with 10 out of the 13 of us (77%) winning a round! Including you, well done!- 45 replies

Carbon tube for a wing joiner? - thats a very bad idea - it can shatter without warning - been there, done that. Solid carbon rod is ok - but still watch out for any nicks in the surface that could cause trouble. My Swift came with a solid steel joiner - replaced with solid carbon to save weight. Phil.

Having had the Top Model 3.14m the Discus 4.5m and the Fox 4m they all have a slab of carbon reinforcing along the wing top and bottom and there is a spar in-between them as well and the weak link has been the wing joiner as had to get a stainless steel one for the Swift and the Fox ,Fox one yet to try as the dam thing is 2.3lb so i actually have a 20mm and 18mm carbon tube coming today to glue together to try as that will be way lighter as the carbon/kevlar one supplied bends like no ones business and terrifies me every time i fly it as its so bendy so i would assume that this Swifts wings will be pretty much the same inside as probably made in the same place . wings on the Swift were solid and i never got them to bend , time will tell on the Fox as not flown it much yet but i do love it so far

Kavan Resco : F5L : 26/03/2024 : 5m 28s The weather unexpectedly offered me an opportunity to pop down my local field for some flights. My batteries were still ready from a couple days ago when I started walking down to the field and it was very windy, so turned round and went home. So it was a grab 'n' go decision around 10am this morning and had about an hour and a half to play. This was flight was my first, but did have a number of similar flights. In my first post I mentioned a couple of things: 1) Tendency to turn left - this turned out to be the left wing tip slightly turned up. Just required me to use the covering iron to straighten it. The wing tips on the Resco are quite weak. 2) Even though I was flying with the CG towards the forward end of the range the glider was behaving as if it was a little tail heavy. This I rectified in two stages. Firstly by slipping a 1/64" piece of wood under the front of the tailplane, and this improved the flight. Secondly I slipped a 1/64" piece of would under the rear of the wing and now the glider scoots around the sky happily. I'm guessing when assembling the model, the decalage wasn't at it's optimum position. I can now fly the Resco more cleanly, and at times hands off. Lovely flying characteristic. I did have my hatcam on so here's a short video clip of it: https://youtu.be/nwtt1J5Julw Ready for April now, as I continue to build my F3L Magic 2 SL..... Carl

They use brilliant white or pure white, an auto paint store is best to go to get this, one that mixes paint.
