I won't be rejoining the BMFA until after June 2020 when the exemptions run until. Not being a competition flyer anymore, means that I have no need for BMFA membership. It does mean that I won't be rejoining any of the flying clubs I belong to though, which is disappointing. I had made that decision before seeing the video linked in this thread.

Nothing needs to be passed by Parliament. The ANO was changed last summer. Steve

The reality is that personal details are not safe in any event... We have all, I'm sure, signed up to forums, social media, online stores, credit cards, banking etc etc so our data is out there. If people don't want the BMFA to pass the details you can still register directly, I don't see it being mutually exclusive (i.e if BMFA member you must have them deal for you etc). Seems like a simple registration and an easy test with a minimal fee. Also, as I fly a 1m dlg which weighs less than 250g I do not technically need to comply in any event.

    Repair or Scrap? Advice please

Had the above up working with English sub titles - put the German sub titles on (the CC box to the right ) then put the English translation on (the settings button to the next right of the CC box - select "Subtitles/CC German (auto generated) " then pick "Auto-translate" from the drop down menu that appears and select English ) - makes it a bit easier to follow ... Tried to save in a link with the options working but it didn't work ... Taggarc

Hi David Like it or not, whether you do everything you can to not have your personal details available to the police or government agencies, if you do take a drone test your personal details will NOT be safe any more. Taking the drone test is NOT a good idea.......mind you, pretty soon, IMO being a BMFA member isn't going to be a particularly good idea either Regards Pete BARCS1702

As far as I can see the biggest hurdle for some people will be, do I want the BMFA to pass my personal details to the CAA and how secure is that data. If you do not divulge these details you will be breaking a law, when it is eventually passed by Parliament. Having done a Beta example of the new Drone test, I think it is easier than doing an "A" certificate, and also means you do not have to prove you can actually fly, safely or otherwise. David.

Thanks. Seems quite straightforward to me... ... If you fly RC over 250g then you need to a) be registered and b) take a test to prove competency. If you a member of BMFA then you don't need to worry about 'a'. If you have an A cert already from the BMFA then you have to worry about 'b' either. Total cost is £9. So for me... I am a member of BMFA so need to register... I don't have a certificate so I need to take the test. It costs me £9 overall. Simples.

All you need to know.... It's in German but the only translation to need is "Geschenksband" the is the ribbon you use to wrap present, which curls up if you scrap it along some scissors. I've used this method a couple of times, only adds about 1g

Hi BigT Tony is right, ignore the aesthetic side of this repair,........... cyano the break dead straight . wind a cuff of, preferably, light carbon weave cloth, tightly round either side of the break, tack in place with cyano, paint with resin, dab off the surplus resin with kitchen roll forcing the resin into the cloth ......alors! Regards Pete BARCS 1702

    Repair or Scrap? Advice please

Before all the guys who know their stuff pipe in , the answer is yes to repairing it, it's not very hard to do and you won't notice the difference in performance. You could have it flying by next weekend. Please post pics. Tony
  24. So having had a few sessions with the Hawk and having managed, finally, to find a very small thermal giving me a 1.30 sec flight, much more satisfying than the usual 30 seconds. So today I thought I would take advantage of the really nice October weather, sunny , 4 mph wind. However, disaster struck before I could even get the battery plugged in. On getting the model out of the vehicle I found that the boom has snapped clean in half midway between the tail and the trailing edge of the wing. Possibly there may have been a manufacturing fault in the carbon fiber wrap, possibly it got knocked in transit but I cant see how, definitely not crashed or handled roughly by me or anyone around me. So the question is this, is it worth trying to repair it and if so how? And if it is repaired will the flight performance be so horrible it not worth bothering. I could not see a spare fuselage on the Hyperflight or any other web site. Thanks in advance
