WANTED Super Sinbad 93" or similar

Hi, I all, I have been building allot (including a large Leprechaun) and have had enough of it for a while... but, still really would like a Super Sinbad, like the one flown by John Woodfield in the youtube video I imagine we've all watched... So I wondered if anyone had built, or part built one thats gathering dust? Let me know... Leo

Nice Mike! I have an Mk1 Alula that I built with 4 servos, I must fix it and get it flying again. The idea was to use the Alula to learn servo mixing using my Royal Evo 9 but I nearly exploded my brain trying to work it all out

Is this an early Multiplex Flamingo…?

I have an original Mk 1 MPX Flamingo fuselage, aquired from Dave Welch who ran the model shop in Leighton Buzzard who Pete knew as well (RIP). That looks the same with the exception of the nose radius. Seems someone has built a set of polyhedral wings and a larger rudder for it to fly RE only. John M

Yes, the latest in my family of soaring templates is for 4/5-servo flying wings, and it supports crow brakes.

Is this an early Multiplex Flamingo…?

Hi Gary Well found Yes, there were many. many "copies" of iconic fuselages back in the day - usually in glass strand mat, rather than woven glass and gelcoat though Regards Pete BARCS1702

Is this an early Multiplex Flamingo…?

Appears to be a copy of an early Flamingo fuselage, the canopy cut out is the same and the fin leading edge/rudder hinge line sweep looks very similar. It has a matching reversed AMT bellcrank. Fuselage length would be 1025 mm. The nose radius is bigger as noted, I have a Centi-Phase fuselage which is almost certainly a copy with a blunt nose (not that a CP has a sharp nose!). I also have an MPX LS3 fuselage that appears to be a copy but made in the original moulds, the quality/finesse is just not there. The rudder has a larger chord at the top for more area, needed for this RES glider. Nice looking model whatever it is. Gary

It's dictated by wind direction and people's availability - some lucky souls fly at Thurnham whenever the wind is SW, other just when they can. All completely informal, no club stuff (although we do try and encourage people to be sensible and respectful of dog walkers, other people etc. In light wind conditions we share the slope with paragliders which is mostly OK.... Yorkshire Wolds soaring ?

That would be very possible I flew at Rufforth from 1992 to just before 2000, then switched to power at Sherburn. Before that I was at Pocklington, taking advantage of the "great slopes" of the Yorkshire Wolds! It all began on Beverley Westwood "back in the day", flying RC models as a kid. The flying came to an end once the children arrived, now they have left home, it's time to start again! Regards to all Pete

Do you use "light" TX versions for DLG?

I bit the bullet and ordered one from T9 ( l got a confirmation of it being posted within 5ms of placing order! ) . Will report initial findings when I get it. Couple of popcorn friendly reviews: short and sweet; Long and ocd (check out vid at 51m + for amazing fp clear video):

Viking Facctor canopy cutout was different shape , not so big .

Is this an early Multiplex Flamingo…?

Hi Pete The wings are foam, span 2.8m (+/-5cm). It's probably just my photo that makes those brakes look like spoilers. That's some black film covering the full depth recesses which I'm pretty sure were for Schempp style brakes. The strange thing is that I have another bare, unused 'Flamingo' fuselage which I believe was taken off a Multiplex original and the two are pretty much identical. It's mainly that Polyhedral / no aileron thing that's throwing me! All the best Daryl

Is this an early Multiplex Flamingo…?

Hi Daryl I'm wondering too, but it's definitely not an "early" Flamingo, the nose, wing joiners and fin shape are not MPX and the letterbox brakes are wrong too.... Looks to me to be a Facctor or similar fuselage and a pair of 100" wings - are they foam or built up? Regards Pete BARCS1702
  22. Well, I’d always thought that this model I bought a year or two back was a very early Multiplex Flamingo, but I’m beginning to wonder! I understand that were many iterations over the years, but I can’t find any others with a polyhedral foam cored/veneered wing and without ailerons. Not sure if the airbrake boxes are original or cut later. The glass fus looks exactly like a Flamingo, and it has the floating round wing joiner with fore and aft spigots on the fus. Anybody recognise / care to date it…? Or maybe Multiplex produced something early on, very similar to the Flamingo, but with a polyhedral RES setup? Any info much appreciated (even if it makes me look silly to have asked… ) Daryl

    Yorkshire Wolds soaring ?

Thank you for all the advice all. I agree it makes sense to start from scratch with a modern design and I like the sound of an interchangeable wing. Something must be a compromise I guess but at my level, I doubt it is significant. I'm still amazed/disappointed there aren't any slopes in the Yorkshire Wolds that aren't popular anymore. The people I knew from Beverley (where I grew up) were more than happy up there. I actually live very close to Rufforth and also flew full size gliders from there for several years, several decades ago. Regards to all. Pete

    3rd 2020 2m Hi Start 14 day Duration Challenge

Got out for an hour late this afternoon. A gap in between rain showers. 5 flights, the best was the last flight at 4:38 just before the rain restarted. Very cloudy with a 5-7 mph wind blowing straight over the farm house (strictly no fly zone unless its too high to notice - it never got that high). Really starting to enjoy flying the new Mad Hatter.. Martyn Kinder - F3-RES - Mad Hatter 2 - 4:38 I do expect that score to be beaten though.
