  4. We are going to try and run this warm up weekend, where we hope to have all and any Glider practice with winch lines out and as much help as we can provide, there will be a few fun type comps on both days but most of all hopefully a good turn out and good weather. Hopefully the UK F3J team will be there, if not all of them some of them on at least one of the days, if you have any questions or want any information, they are a friendly bunch honest, (they also will be grateful to receive any donations towards the team travel fund see me and I will point you in the right direction) We also hope to have some of the top F5J/eSoaring pilots there for you to pick the brains of as well, and of course I will be there ! The weekend is free to attend and will be run as a training workshop with a few fun comps thrown in, look out for the signs from the road, we hope to be in the second field on the left up the drive passed the double cross gates through the gate in the tree line just before the house on the right, when turning into the field go right up the hill and keep close to the hedge where the ground is OK at the moment. Further details will follow; please if you are going to attend let me know via this thread on the eSoaring Forum http://www.esoaring.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=13567#p13567 or my email: Bernie@esoarer.co.uk or mobile O774O 181861 Here's hoping for a bit of that eSoaring Pillerton Hersey weather we had last weekend Bernie

  6. I am a big fan of the Xplorer from Nan Models so I was more than interested when I heard that Acemodel had taken delivery of their latest creation. Fortunately for me, I had just sold some unused models to raise cash for another project ( which I quickly binned), and after some negotiations with Austin at Acemodel, I got me one of the first (maybe the first) of this new breed This model is especially made for F5j and is VERY light ! It is delivered with label warning not to attempt winch launching with it Wingspan is 3.8mtrs with the latest X2 airfoil, and the fus. is cross tail with an all moving tailplane. It is all moulded. Wings and tail are glass rather than carbon spread tow, which keep’s the weight down. The fus, looks like a new design, as it has not got the characteristic F3j ‘droop nose’, and is moulded in Kevlar with carbon reinforcement For a model of this weight, the finish of white on top, blue on the underside, and the fit of parts is the best I have seen. It also has a snazzy new logo The total airframe weight including joiners and the usual pack of bits is 1130g At the moment I am deciding what equipment to put in it, and I will update this post as I get the various bits installed. I hope to end up with a model flying weight of about 1500/1600g, which if I have made the calculation correctly will result in a wing loading of around 19g/dm2 which in old money is 6.2oz.sq.ft

  10. Hi Guys I want to take part in the f5j event at Radioglide. What device should I get for my model, to enable me to take part? A device that also functions as a height limiter would be good for practice and in case I ever take part in a height limited comp. Cheers Tom

  12. ASHURST West Sussex – ELECTRIC POWERED GLIDER FUN FLY WEEKEND – Saturday 23rd and/or Sunday 24th March 2013 Please note Dates changed to 6-7th April, see the post 4 below Please forward to anyone you know who you think may be interested. To kick start what we hope will be another successful e-Soaring/F5J year at Ashurst, we are going have a simple but fun weekend. FUN FLY WEEKEND WITH ESOARING, F5J, MINI COMPS AND BMFA ELECTRIC SILENT FLIGHT ACHIEVEMENT TESTS The event is open to spectators and anyone flying ANY electric HAND LAUNCH powered glider up to 4m wingspan. BMFA insurance is required, (please bring your card) but no other qualifications are required provide you can demonstrate safe flying practice. Much of the day will be taken up with normal “off the peg” sport flying from designated landing and take off spots, but we will also be running several very simple FUN events during the weekend. There will be no obligation whatsoever to take part in any of these “mini comps”. However, if you are not flying, you MAY (read that as will) get called in to help with some timekeeping, counting and measuring! Apart from having fun, one of our aims for the day is to attract new interest in e-Soaring/F5J and show just how easy it is to get involved. To this end, there will be plenty of “experts” around to help with models, give advice and answer any questions or queries about electric gliders. We will be able to help you with updating your RC Electronics and AerobTec Altis v3 height limiters, but please remember it is the pilots responsibility to be able to provide a reader if the height needs to be checked while flying in comps. Fancy having a go but don't have a e-Glider, we will have a Multiplex buddy box system flying a Multiplex Easy Glider Pro which you can have a go on if you want, please see Bernie to book a slot. The Electric events at Ashurst this year will be eSoaring and F5J so come and see what it's all about learn with us. If you have ever wondered what thermal soaring is all about, this will be the weekend to find out. If you are already an experienced e-Soaring - F5J competitor, then please come along and help to spread the word - and have some fun at the same time. (A couple of the mini comps will be especially designed for you and will be tough!) For anyone interested, loan altimeter switches will be available on the day ( with thanks to eSoaring gadgets) and help offered to anyone who wants to try their hand at height limited flying, without the perceived “pressure” of competition. We will also be having a look at the BMFA Silent flight Electric Achievement program, demos discussions and tests will be available to those who are interested Please speak to Bernie or Paul for more info. So what sort of fun “mini comps” are we running? Sorry, but you’ll have to come along and see for yourself! There will be prizes (mostly tins of something cold and wet) awarded at the end of the day for all sorts of things – not just for doing well in a “mini comp” ! There is no pre-entry, just turn up and enter on the day! Something to sell? You are welcome to bring anything along you want to sell. Nothing formal – it will be just like a car boot sale for Electric Glider Flyers. If you would like to come along, it would be useful for us to know, so that we can cater for expected numbers. Simply reply to this thread with you name, and if flying, your preferred frequency (if on 35 preferred plus an option if possible). If you need any more information, ask on this forum or email me - (Bernie@esoarer.co.uk) - and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. If you intend flying, watch this space for costs, but remember it still costs nothing to come along as a spectator. Official start time each day will be 10.00 am, but you can book in anytime after 9.00am - Flying till to dark or to cold - DON'T forget your BMFA membership card or insurance document. As you all are aware the ground has been very wet, please be careful on the fields and only drive where directed.
