Radioglide 2023

43rd Festival of Flat Field Soaring May 26th - 29th

Location: BMFA National Flying Centre, Sewstern Road, Buckminster, Grantham, NG33 5RW

Competition schedule and details for Radioglide 2023 are now confirmed as follows:

Friday May 26th - all day practice/fly for fun (soaring only)
Saturday & Sunday May 27th/28th - FAI classes for F3K and F5J (details below)
Saturday evening barbeque
Sunday evening 6-7:30 pm - informal FXRES/up to 2 metre span event (format tbc)
Monday - May 29th FXRES and GPS

F5J will be a two-day event with a single dropped score to determine the 2023 Radioglide Champion.

This will be the first of three comps during 2023 which count towards 2024 British Team Selection.

Subject to weather etc. the plan is to have 6 rounds Saturday and 5 rounds on Sunday followed by two 15-minute Fly Off slots on Sunday only.

Pilots can enter for one day if they prefer. Each day’s event will be based on 1 dropped score for the day and will count as a separate BMFA league event, subject to a minimum of 4 rounds being completed on the day.

A 2M class will run concurrently within the F5J event (F5J rules) to encourage RES & eSoaring pilots to take part in the competition.

F3K will be a two-day event. Plan is to have a minimum of 12 rounds in total to enable one dropped score to determine the overall winner.

Pilots can enter for one day only if they prefer - their result will be calculated as a percentage of the two-day score for a single league result.

FXRES will be flown to the revised rules (available on the BMFA website) incorporating spot landing bonus, best 6 flight scores out of 10 attempts, plus a fly off.

The Lilienthal Trophy will be awarded again to the "Radioglide Best Newcomer".

Entry Fees have been held to the same as last year:

FAI classes F5J & F3K £15 per day
FxRES and GPS £10 per day

Friday practice/fun fly (soaring class models) - there is no charge for entrants to use the field on Friday and no limits on flying time, so long as we comply with Buckminster site rules where they are applicable.  Site Rules – BMFA National Visitor Centre. Non-entrants will be required to pay the standard Buckminster day rate.

Entries to be received by midnight Monday May 22nd. No refunds will be made after Monday 22/5.

Online entry is preferred - use the product options below. Alternatively complete the attached entry form and email it to: stevenknowles@btinternet.com. Or print and post it to the address on the form.

Camping facilities are available on-site including Toilets, Cold Water, Showers & Chemical Toilet Disposal. There is no facility for electric hook up, however, considerate use of generators is permitted.

Cost is per unit, per night - max 4 nights, (Friday to Monday), can be booked via BARCS. Additional nights may be available but will have to be booked directly with BMFA Buckminster

The BMFA have had to increase the camping fees this year and the rate per day will depend on how many nights you stay. The new rates are as follows:  1 night £18; 2 nights £34, 3 nights £48; and 4 nights £60.

We collect the camping fees on behalf of the BMFA to simplify the process for our entrants. We have no control over the fees that are charged.

Campers are responsible for clearing up and disposing of all rubbish please.

No flying is allowed in the campsite.

We’re planning for a barbeque to be set up in front of the hanger on Saturday evening. Please bring your own food and drinks but the aim is that pilots from all classes can get together to socialise after the day’s flying is finished.

See https://nationalcentre.bmfa.org/visitor-info/camping for further details.
