I keep being asked by so many people/customers if I will be going to the BARCs Soaring Market, that I think its best to put on the forum, Which has been confirmed to me by Graham James, To quote "I'm afraid the Soaring Market is no more. Lack of interest from traders (yourself excepted), falling attendance, other events in the local area, makes the event unviable. There was an EGM at Radioglide and it was voted to change the AGM date to coincide with RG in future." So there will be no Soaring Market this year which given the interest I've had seems a great shame, but there we are moving on will hopefully see you soon at some other event Bernie (eSoaring Gadgets UK)

Forum member numbers continue to grow, and its great to see this community forming, with more and more resources available, whether it be communicating events, flying sessions with your mates, or the exchange of helpful information and answering questions forum members ask. So it strikes me that the same success the forum is seeing could perhaps be translated into a better representation for gliding pilots in the UK, and the obvious vehicle is through a stronger BARCS with more members (Note: These are my own views. I don't represent BARCS, but I am an ordinary member). I was a member back in the 80s/90s when there were many more members, and BARCS brought us a fantastic informative Newsletter, RadioGlide, SlopeGlide, Electric Events and the 'BARCS Tech' symposium. Some would say 'why do we need representation?', and that might be true today, but will it be tomorrow? In the US there has been a considerable clamping down on RC flying, including more draconian height restrictions, and even total bans within city limits in places. Slope sites have been lost recently, and for many slope sites we maybe only have a tenuous permission to fly. With such small numbers we are quite a fragile community. So I would ask you to consider paying less than 20p per week to ensure the forum, and BARCS remain healthy, and continue to grow. Now is the right time of year to join. Who knows what a much stronger BARCS could bring? - it is only limited by the vision and ingenuity of it's members (and if the forum is anything to go by there is a lot of both out there). The 2011 BARCS Soaring Season came to an end on October 9th and the final league tables can be found in the appropriate class tabs. One again the weather affected many competitions, either resulting in postponement, cancellation or curtailment with just enough rounds flown to make them count. Despite this 90 individual members entered competition, recording 205 class entries. Congratulations to all the winners, you will be being contacted about trophy arrangements in due course. On behalf of all the competitors and BARCS we would like to offer a special vote of thanks to all the organisers and CD’s for their hard work and to the clubs who gave access to their fields. The All Rounder Tables are too large to be displayed on the website and are available to view or download here Graham James.
