  1. The event is a ‘Bartletts League’ qualifier and will be run at Bartletts Farm, on EQFA new field which is located on the left had side at the top end of the entrance lane, NOT the ‘old’ field on the r/h side of the lane. The usual 3 classes of model can be flown, Open, 2Mtr and 100” (up to 2.6mtr allowed), and each can score points in their own Bartletts league. Please note that models must comply with BARCS class restrictions if you wish to also score in the appropriate BARCS Leagues. 2 entries allowed per pilot, but each entry must be with different class models. AMRT (Height limiter) CAN be set to any height up to 300mtrs, but MUST be set with a maximum motor run time of 30sec. Scoring as per F5J, i.e. a penalty of 3 points per metre for launching over 200mtrs, If weather conditions are good, the launch height penalty cut off may be reduced to 175mtrs but this will be confirmed in advance. And don’t forget, not only can you re start your motor in an emergency (which cancels that flight score) you can also have one re- launch during a slot if you find it necessary. Entry £5.00 payable on the day. BARCS-ELG 2018

For anyone who may have missed previous announcements of rule changes, I hope these notes will help. 10 minute slot for each flight, each model must have an AMRT (used to be called height limiter) and every flight has to record the height it achieves on launch, also the AMRT must limit the motor to one run of 30seconds (or less) exactly as for F5J . It can also be set to allow an emergency motor re start, should you need it, but that would result in a zero score for that flight score only. No bonus for launching below 200mtrs, but 3 points per metre penalty for exceeding this height. The AMRT can be set to any height to cut the motor and limit launch height, or it can be disabled, allowing the pilot to decide if and when to cut the motor. One re-launch is allowed within the slot time, and as usual with all gliding comps, it is the re-launch which is counted as the score for that slot. These changes have proven to allow for both expert and novice to enjoy the same good competition and a fun day out. Early advice of the first known diary dates for next year are below. These are all subject to final confirmation, and it is hoped there will be more and new events to be added. 29thApril Rettendon/Lt.Bentley * 20thMay Sittingbourne * 10thJune Rettendon * 15July Rettendon/Lt.Bentley * 9 September Kent/TBA * 30thSeptember Rettendon * 14thOctober Rettendon *these are also Bartletts League competitions

    BARCS-ELG 6thMay 2018

Second attempt to run this, the first BARCS-ELG rules comp of year, let’s hope we have better luck this time. The event is a ‘Bartletts League’ qualifier and will be run at Bartletts Farm, but on our new field which is located at the top end of the entrance lane, NOT the ‘old’ field on the r/h side of the lane. Parking on this new field is more restricted than on the 'old' field, and will only be allowed on the hard standing at the entrance end of the field . Driving vehicles on the grass is not allowed as this could result in EQFA having to find another field, again The usual 3 classes of model can be flown, Open, 2Mtr and 100” (up to 2.6mtr allowed), and each can score points in their own Bartletts league. Scoring as per F5J, i.e. a penalty of 3 points per metre for launching over 200mtrs, BUT no bonus for launching below 200mtrs. And don’t forget, not only can you re start your motor in an emergency (which cancels that flight score) but you get one re launch in a slot if you find it necessary Entry £5.00 payable on the day. Please register your entry in this thread, all will be assumed to on 2.4 unless advised

    CHANGE BARCS ELG RULES

BARCS members will have received or be receiving in the next day or so the first BARCS Bulletin 2017. As will be seen, one of the items covered is a proposal that I have put forward for members to vote on at the coming AGM. My proposal is to replace our existing electric rules which are out dated and no longer used as far as I know.’ Many forum only members will not see this bulletin, but thoughts and opinions would be welcomed, and I set out my proposal for comment here. I propose that we drop BARCS ELG rules and replace them with the rules used in the very successful ‘Bartletts League’. These rules allow for 3 wingspan classes in one competition. A competitor may enter any 2 classes, with 2 different models. But not one model in 2 classes. Basically, all models must have a readable AMRT, set to 30sec motor run time along with a cut off height set to no higher than max 200metres. All launch heights are recorded, anything over 200metres is penalised with a 3point per metre penalty, but there is no advantage for launching lower than 200metres. To encourage pilots who only have the CAM type of height limiter which cannot be read, these are permitted, and automatically score a 20 metre height penalty. One relaunch in each slot is allowed. Everything else is normal BARCS league, 10 min slot etc, etc. There is now more interest in F5J, and some say that we should reduce the number of electric gliding classes because of it. This proposal would go some way towards that end, but still encourage those BARCS members who fly electric powered thermal soarers, but who either consider their model not suitable for, or who don’t want to fly in F5J. The full rules I am proposing are attached. 5. SORRY TO ADVISE THAT DUE TO EXPECTED HIGH WINDS, THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED This is the first round in this year’s Eastern Area BMFA F5J League. Venue is the EQFA site at Bartletts Farm, Rettendon, Nr.Chelmsford.Essex. CM3 8EW https://goo.gl/maps/HzAaHwzngUx Your model must have an approved height limiting/data logging device (AMRT) which must be able to show the max height your model goes to during its motor run time plus 10seconds after your motor is shut off. The limiting function must be set to allow maximum 30seconds motor run time, and the height limiting function must either be disabled or set to 300m. Motor restart is permitted at any time during flight for safety reasons, but will result in a zero score for that round. Two classes of model can be entered, either Open or 2Metre but only one entry permitted. Prizes awarded on the day and points scored will go towards the National League. The competition will be run to BMFA Local rules, 6 rounds will be flown if conditions permit and there will not be a flyoff Entry fee £10.00 (BMFA requirement) payable on the day Proof of BMFA membership (card is sufficient) required - please supply your BMFA number with your entry Timing on the day may vary, and all/any help to set up the field will be appreciated.
