Location: · Tonbridge club field is at Leigh Park Farm. The postcode is TN11 8PN. What3words: ///corn.flags.dots Additional Info: · The rules are a variant of BARCS Multi-launch but, for Electric launch gliders, the variant is slightly different from last year. As before, Electric launch gliders must be fitted with an AMRT (height limiter) which cuts the motor at 30 secs and records the launch height. Electric launch height remains at 175m but there will now be a penalty of 3 pts per metre for Electric launches exceeding it. Most pilots will want to set AMRTs to cut a little below 175m. It is fine instead to use F5J firmware and cut the motor manually. This event will be using Gliderscore eScoring via smart phones. We will print and issue a score record card for you to record your round scores and set up your phones via QR matrix · A minimum of 4 rounds and a maximum of 6 rounds will be flown Enter by replying to this Topic Entrants Tonbridge Shane Alce, Bob Hope, Phil Ramsey, Colin Paddon Bloobirds Iain Stingemore and Ian Nicholls Electric Ashford Mike Connell, Dave Teal Bromley Bob Ryan, Gordon Loomes, Alan Twine, Derek Collings Canterbury Eddy Small Invicta Richard Harris, Keith Fisher SADMAC Brian Martin, John Postle, Alan Harris, David Yale, Terry Letchford Guests Peter Mitchell, Brian Austin
  2. It's back! After a long time away Multiplex have re-acquired the Alpina name and are releasing a new all moulded 4m version, the Alpina Carbotec. This time it's manufactured by Tomahawk Aviation and is priced at 1200 Euros in electric and unpowered versions... There is also a smaller 3.3m one with a T tail (again in electric and pure sailplane), the Antaris… (880 Euros) At these prices I think they could be pretty popular, especially if the Tangent quality issues have been sorted out. RCGroups thread here...
  3. Afternoon all, Just bought an electric RCRCM Typhoon fuz and have literally zero idea on power train for it. I have some 3s 2200mah lipos that i would like to use and would like something that will be a warm - hot liner rather than something bonkers. Can someone let me know their setup? Just need prop, motor and esc sizes. I have literally zero idea on electric stuff!!!! Thanks loads. Oh and if anyone has a second hand setup that would work this would also be great :-)

  12. Dear flyers at Whitesheet and those who visit, Please note that there has now been a rule change to the flying restrictions at Whitesheet Hill. Many of you will have flown at this wonderful site in Wiltshire (and may be members of the club) and will know that for most of its life, the site has been for unpowered models only. In 2009 a trial was started to allow electric power to be used for height gain only. Electric models in general terms were not permitted. Following this successful trial period of many years, the club has now ratified changes to the club rules to allow this change permanently. The matter was voted on at the AGM, following discussions and work with both the BMFA and the National Trust, both of whom fully support the proposed changes. With immediate effect, electric assist can be used at Whitesheet for height gain, with the following section added to the club handbook: The following definitions have been agreed by the WSRFC committee and will serve to clarify amendments to the rules on powered model flying: Glider A model sailplane with no form of propulsion system fitted. Any model designed to fly and climb solely by slope or thermal lift, falls into this category. Self-Launching Glider A model sailplane whose primary flight mode is unpowered soaring. Such a model may have an electric propulsion system used to gain altitude, at the beginning of a flight, when slope lift is insufficient or is not working on one of the available slopes. All other radio controlled aircraft This category is a cover-all for any flying model that does not fit into either the Glider or Self-Launching Glider definitions above. Types of model that may fly All forms of Glider as defined above may be flown from the Whitesheet hill, in the areas and slopes identified in the sections above. New for 2017, Self-launching Gliders will be permitted to fly at Whitesheet, within the rules of the club. It is vital that flying of such models be conducted with respect for the peace and beauty of the area and that the good reputation of the club, both with the National Trust and with the public, is maintained. Only electric propulsion may be used to gain altitude. Internal combustion engines or gas turbine engines are not permitted, in order to ensure the least possible noise intrusion from the power phase of a flight. Models that are designed to rely on the propulsion system for sustained flight are not permitted. This includes hotliners and other types of electric powered model that have not been designed to seek out and exploit lift. Undoubtedly, there will be a period of adjustment, where the above rule changes will require review. In the event of justified negative feedback from the public, from the National Trust or from other flyers, the allowance of electric power for climb out may be revoked. No model aircraft, other than those described as Gliders or Self-launching Gliders may be flown from Whitesheet hill. This includes (but is not limited to) multicopters, quadcopters and helicopters. The hope is that more flying can take place at Whitesheet, more of the time. I also hope that these changes will encourage greater membership and better participation in future events at the hill, as our flyers will be encouraged to make the journey and meet up, knowing that the weather conditions have a lower impact on whether or not they will get some flying in. If you have any questions relating to this change, please don't hesitate to contact me by PM or post here. For more details about the club, please visit www.whitesheet.org.uk best regards Chris Lamming Chairman, WSRFC

    Pulsar 3.2 electric.

Just bought myself a 'beautiful' Pulsar 3.2 electric thermal soaring glider. Second hand and hardly flown. Had some motor issues initially but soon fixed. I've only test-flown it but the quality looks absolutely marvellous. Each panel looks perfect on its own but there is a slight twist somewhere because the left wing-tip is slightly above the central flap, which is slightly above the right wing-tip. Needs looking at one day. One concern I have is that there is no switch; you make all the battery connections before screwing the nose cone on. So you cannot turn it 'off' between flights. Has anyone got any suggestions about a switch? They only ever seem to switch the ESC connection, not the power line but I'm not sure what's best. Anybody used anything like this 'Zepsus' switch (link here) ? Or is a proper 'physical' switch just as good ?
  16. BMFA F5J comp., Sunday 16th August - Little Bentley, Essex Directions to the field can be found here on the F3K Eurotour site. Nearest postcode to the field entrance is CO7 8SN. Due to the cancellation of several soaring competitions on Sundays we have made the Saturday a reserve day, not for the Sunday but for a previously cancelled event. If the forecast for Sunday 16th August looks poor but Saturday 15th looks good we may cancel the Sunday event and go with a comp. on Saturday. Please indicate if you are able to enter on either day or just one. Sunday will always take precedence over Saturday as long as the weather is OK for the Sunday. To enter, your model must have an approved height limiting/data logging device set to allow 30 sec motor run time. The height limiting function must either be disabled or set to 300m. Motor restart is permitted at any time during flight, but it will result in a zero score for that round. Two classes of model can be entered, either Open or 2Metre. Prizes awarded on the day and points scored will go to the National League. Please note that only one class can be entered. Entry fee £10.00 (BMFA requirement) payable on the day Proof of BMFA membership (card is sufficient) required - please supply your BMFA number with your entry Timing on the day may vary, and all/any help to set up the field will be appreciated. But the plan is as usual, book in from 9am. First flight’s 10am. Entry list on the http://www.flyquiet.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=4959.0 - please send your entries in by 8pm on Saturday 15th August with your frequency and a reserve if flying on 35MHz. Copy of full rules can be obtained here: BMFA rule book Tony ---- Tony Merritt tony(at)quick-net(dot)co(dot)uk 07xxxxxxxxxxx - removed 24/5/2018 - did Facebook scrape my phone number?
