  7. Now that winter testing is fully underway, I can see the benefit of a telemetry receiver in gauging practice launch heights. I recall at last April's try it day at Buckminster that someone was using a Lemon telemetry receiver. I assume it was a Lemon LM0051. Question is will it work safely on a single Lipo? 3.7v-4.02v. Literature for an LM0051 suggests not - 4.5v min. I currently use a Lemon RX6 which runs fine for over an hour on a 1s lipo.

    F3K WC 2017

So the journey begins to the 2017 F3k model glider world champion ships. An early start from the frozen north leaving my house at 00:15. Now at Heathrow waiting for the other mikes. Thanks to all that have helped me get here and a special thanks to Neil lhttps://www.superfly.online/ Denis http://www.ds-composites.eu/ and Richard at bowing for their support. For those interested in keeping up to date with the result they will be at http://wch2017.f3k.in.ua/
  14. COMPETITION CANCELLED. FORECAST TO BE TOO WINDY. BMFA F3K League 10 June 2017 Malvern. At the Malvern Soaring Association field in Upton on Severn. This is a great venue for gliding with plenty of space and apparently the weather is going to be brilliant! PM me or post here to enter with name, freq and BMFA number. Deadline for entries 1900 Thursday 8 June. I will make a call on the weather 1200 09 June and post here. BMFA membership required. £10 on the day. As always, first time competition pilots very welcome. Please arrive by 0930 latest for the first round to start at 1000. Directions to the field here. Some bonus directions as a few people have found it tricky previously: Google Maps satellite image view shows it very clearly. Exit the A4104 onto E(ast) Waterside. Drive to the end and turn right, heading back under the A4104 into the field. You'll end up driving along the Severn way pretty much. Please stick to driving along the track on the edge of the field. We'll park up about where the tent is on the Google maps image (shown as of 30/5/17). I will open the gate under the bridge from about 0800-0930 for competitors to drive onto the field, then lock it again. It can be opened again during the day if competitors need to drive in and out. Spectators are welcome, but unless they want to stay all day like competitors will need to park on the right along the slip road just off the main road. The parking here is obvious and used by locals who come to walk the footpath around the field. Our club hosts are sensitive about vehicle access to the field, and I will be too busy flying, timing and running a comp (or at least trying to) to be back and forward all day to the gate. Let me know if you have any questions. Radioglide 2017 F3K Report and Results

Entries were well up this time on the past few years at 18 - we only had 8 in 2016. This trend has been there for all of the first three F3K events this season and is a very welcome sign. Not just more entries but an improving standard of flying across the board with several new names coming in and already flying at a good standard. We were all keen to see and try the new BMFA National Centre field and we were not disappointed. Driving up from London I met increasingly overcast conditions and a fair breeze from the west. The sky cleared during the day and the wind dropped off giving ideal conditions for a contest. F3K set up camp outside what will be the main carpark for the field with the box towards the south-western corner of the property. People were able to operate from their cars but the box was constrained by the newly seeded runways which we need to stay off until the grass is established. Once we can get on there, it will be an even nicer set-up. CD Michael Stern had set up 8 rounds of 3 slots to give a relaxed contest and make sure that the newer pilots could always get an experienced timer/caller to help them through the various tasks, which can seem a bit confusing at first. Everybody enjoyed the way the contest ran and we were treated to some spectacular flying from the top pilots who seem to able to conjure some help from the slightest waft of lift with their modern high performance airframes. Some of the tasks require pilots to make fast turnarounds – a tip catch timed to the second followed but an ultra-rapid re-launch – to maximise air time. We fly to a 10 minute slot for the 1,2,3,4 task. Here, you need to make four flights as near as possible to the maxes to win – you can do them in any order so you need to think on your feet. You cannot actually do the full times as they add up to ten minutes and you need to re-launch three times on the way. The eventual winner, Michael Stern (yes the CD!) did 0:57 1:58 3:00 4:00 making a total of 9:55 in 10 minutes! In the 5 x 2:00 round he also did 9:55 but this time with four re-launches making 2:00 1:59 2:00 1:59 1:57. That’s about one second for each re-launch given that times are rounded DOWN to the nearest second. As Team Manager, it was good to see this year’s Team of Michael Stern, Mike Challinor and Richard Swindells finish in that order in the top three places. table.tableizer-table { font-size: 12px; border: 1px solid #CCC; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; } .tableizer-table td { padding: 4px; margin: 3px; border: 1px solid #CCC; } .tableizer-table th { background-color: #104E8B; color: #FFF; font-weight: bold; } 1 Michael Stern 7000 2 Mike Challinor 6950 3 Richard Swindells 7875 4 Marin M 7273 5 Phil P 7060 6 David P 7006 7 Neil H 6879 8 Carlos DS 6111 9 Simon B 6502 Full results are in the Forum post below Nick winds up for a big launch. 16. Hi guys, Bit of a long shot but anyone in the Midlands/Worcestershire area up for having a fly with me? I have my new Snipe together but my flying is terrible, i thought i was getting there when i had my Blaster 3.5 but since switching to the Snipe i'm really having a difficult time and feeling like quitting dlg. I read you have to keep the speed up with these models, but since i always fly alone i have no idea what the optimal speed looks like. I'm also losing a lot of height in turns. And then there is my launch height, i don't know if it's not accurate as i can't get it to zero on the ground anyway and usually ends up reading minus 4m on the ground, but my Spektrum vario says i'm throwing to 20 meters!. Surely a relaxed throw could hit 20m? If it's right then clearly i'm doing something wrong somewhere. I know people will say come to a comp, but i don't feel anyone has time at a comp to spend with me, and i'm certainly not entering if i really am only throwing 20m, that's just shocking. So i'm looking for anyone local...ish that will fly with me and see where i'm going wrong. Maybe a radius or 60 odd miles from Redditch, i'll come to you and pay for your time.
  17. It's Radioglide time again and this year we get our first taste of the field at the BMFA National Flying Centre! Please get your entries in ASAP. As usual, new entrants are very welcome and we will do our best to take care of you. Online entry link: https://www.barcs.co.uk/store/category/5-radioglide-entry/ Start time is 10am, so please aim to get there by about 9am to get yourselves set up to be ready. KST 08 servos

So, over on RC Groups they are discussing the quality and life of the KST 08 servos and they seem really hit and miss. But there are a lot more USA dlg fliers than there are UK fliers so naturally problems may show up with more of them being used over there. You guys here in the UK using them, how are you finding them? i had 4 in Blaster 3 but i didn't own that for very long and have 4 for my Vortex. But, if they are becoming a bit hit or miss, i would rather not finish the build with them and use something else, i'd rather go to something not as well spec'd but that's going to last, rather than use a servo that is great on paper but you just don't know if it's going to fail and put your model in the ground. Out of the first 4 i bought for my Blaster, i did pull 2 out and swap them as they had play in the gears at centre, the other 2 and the 2 new ones i ordered were nice and tight, the sloppy ones are currently in the Vortex to be used on the tail end with pull springs. But like i said i don't know now if i want to carry on the build with them. Id rather put the SD100 on tails but would need something that will fit in the wing. How have you guys found them? any failures or issues?

  23. Hey everyone! A question most likely for F3x competitors, what type of boxes do you use to get your models on a plane, or what have you seen in use? I've been trying to find something big enough to take a few F3K size planes, but not dramatically expensive neither. I looked at the type of transport box Hyperflight is selling, though it doesn't fill me with confidence as to the strength of one (selling a damaged box at half price now). I thought of adapting one of the Ski plastic boxes that can accommodate up to 4/5 sets of skis, but getting one big enough in UK, not to mention the price, is giving me a headache. I'm not desperate for one yet, but by next year I will. Thanks for help in advance Eryk
